Work Text:

Gen Asagiri.

A former mentalist turned into a diplomat for the ever growing kingdom of science.

“Come to think of it… ,”

One of the original of the kingdom of science when it was nothing more than just a small village and Senkuu.

“Ever since the beginning,”

Senkuu Ishigami’s right-hand man through it all. The war with Tsukasa to the present.

“I more than a little liked you, Senkuu chan. Personal gain aside,”

And the man Senkuu Ishigami had a crush on for the last 15  years he’d be awake. Since Gen helped him defeat Magma with one big lie.

“I’ve hexed you dear Magma! Under this sorcery your heart will explode should you take a single step!”

Back then, no way Senkuu would’ve guessed he’d fall for anyone. Let alone someone as underhanded as Gen, but then again, so was he. Senkuu loved Gen when he confessed to him in the observatory. He loved him after the war with the empire of might. Loved him after the battle against Ibara. After being shot and turned to stone for another 6 years. He loved him when Gen ran to him first after their mission to defeat Whyman to hug him. He loved him the day Gen got on a plane to America to start his career.

“But knowing you, you’re going to call this gross,”

For 15 years Senkuu had no problem admitting to himself he loved Gen. Admitting to others though-

“Heh totally gross man,”

Wasn’t as easy.

When Gen and he agreed to go to hell together. How Gen put his full trust into Senkuu more than once. How as Senkuu lay there counting his mind would multitask and drift to thinking about Gen. How when Gen rushed to hug him, Senkuu kept his hands to his side. Or when everyone saw Gen off for who knew how long, Senkuu only said he’d see Gen later.

Call it illogical or rational not to confess for so many years, but there was a part of Senkuu (maybe the most illogical part of him) that said in the end they’d always find their way back to each other.

“Pftt haha,” Gen laugh play through Senluu’s phone speakers. “Let me try to get this straight Senkuu chan,” Gen hummed. “You want to hang out after I get to the airport tomorrow but  you want me to pick you up from your lab?” Gen’s camera was propped up on his computer.

“I don’t see what’s so hard to understand mentalist,” Senkuu shrugged.

“Of course you don’t,” Gen playfully rolled his eyes. “Normally you offer to pick someone up from the airport Senkuu chan,”

“Kuku and why would I do that when I can’t drive?” Senkuu snickered. “But if you really want me to try and drive you-,”

“Nope nope!” Gen waved his hands. “Don’t even try. I still remember how bad you were when you tried to drive after making the stream  engine. Never again,” Gen looked like he almost stuttered at the thought.

“We all start somewhere Mentalist,” Senkuu took a bite of his granola bar.

“Yes, but most of the time that’s not driving a friend home from one of the busiest airports in Japan,” Gen pointed out.

“Whatever you say mentalist,” Senkuu waved off. “Pick me up from my lab at 6?”

“You were never normal nay huh Senkuu chan?”

“Nah,”

“Alright then, I’ll see you then,” Gen yawned. “I’m gonna call it a night. Night Senkuu chan,”

“Night mentalist,”

And with that they both turned off their cameras and Senkuu casually just went back to eating lunch like he didn’t just get off the phone with a man he’d been in love with for 15 years.

Senkuu took a bite of his normal cup ramen like he would any other day. Completely casually-

“Ohhhh that was totally Gen wasn’t it?” Suika’s voice popped out of nowhere

Senkuu almost choked on his sandwich.

“Ohhh badddd. Talking to your crush ayeeee?” Chrome added in.

Senkuu got this sandwich down, hand over his heart. “What the hell guys,” Senkuu grumbled.

“Sorry!” Sukia quickly apologized. “We were just coming to take our break when he saw you talking to Gen,”

“Really smooth buddy!” Another voice joined in and hit Senkuu on the back.

“What are you going here you big oaf?!” Senkuu commented.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to startle ya,” Taiju put a wrapped box on the break room table. “Yuzuriha guessed you’d only bring cup noodles so she made a lunch for you too,” Taiju smiled.

“And you just came into a secure lab, found your way to the break room of said lab, to give this to me?”

“Don’t be silly,” Taiju stated. “I asked some here where the break room was,”

Senkuu went deadpan.

“That’s not important right now though,” Chrome huffed. “You definitely just asked Gen on a date didn’t you?” Chrome looked so confident in his teasing.

“Yeah,” Senkuu started to unwrap the lunch..

“Wait what-,” Chrome blinked a few times.

“I asked Gen out with the intention of confessing my feelings for him,” Senkuu explained like it was obvious.

“Oh my god really!” Suika beamed. “Yayyy! I’m so happy for you two!!” Suika pulled Senkuu into an unexpected hug, once again almost choking him.

“I just asked him out to a park,” Senkuu pat Suika’s arm to tell her to let go.

“Still though!?” Chrome added. “It’s been how long? I thought I’d be teasing you about it for the rest of time,”
“Same,” Taiju agreed.

Senkuu shot the two a look. “Says the two who’se been in love since 7 and 11,” Senkuu pointed out. That shut the both of them up almost instantly. “Besides, there's no guarantee he’ll still like me,”

“Oh he does,” Suika hummed, letting go of Senkuu. “Kohaku groans about it all the time after their group calls,”

“Gen talks about me?” Senkuu questioned.

“Apparently allllll the time,” Suika dramatically said.

“See, I don’t see why you waited so long,” Chrome rolled his eyes. “He clearly still likes you man,”

“I’m sure Senkuu has his reasons,” Taiju pointed out.

“Nah, Chromes got a point,” Senkuu said. “Why I’m confessin as soon as he gets back,”

Gen sat back and leaned on his car’s seat. He was definitely jet lagged. Not only was he still getting used to the time change but the clouds above blocked out the sun and gave a cuddly feel. Despite all that, Gen was still seriously still thinking about going to pick up Senkuu later. Maybe it was because he missed talking to Senkuu face to face. Maybe it was because the last time they had a chance to hang was Taiju and Yuzuriha’s honeymoon. Or maybe it was just that he was still in love with Senkuu. A mix of all three? As tired as he was, he still wanted to see Senkuu. The cuddly weather outside wasn’t helping much either.

“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” Gen laughed to himself.

Senkuu checked the forecast on his phone. The rain forecast looked like it wasn’t going to let up. That definitely threw a wrench in his plan.

“Took ya long enough mentalist,” Senkuu opened the car door on the passenger side.

“Afternoon to you too Senkuu chan,” Gen smiled.

“How was your flight?” Senkuu asked.

“No plane crash this time so I’d say pretty well,” Gen joked.

“It was one time,” Senkuu grinned.

“And I’m not getting into another airplane you make again,” Gen teased.

“One time,” Senkuu reminded.

“One time is enough Senkuu chan,” Gen challenged. “Anyway then, where did you want to go?”

“I was hoping we could head to the KOS park but I think that’s off the table,” Senkuu sighed.

“You mean the rain?” Gen questioned. “I would rather not get a cold once I get home,”

“That’s not how colds work mentalist,” Senkuu reminded.

“Well we could always go to your place,” Gen pointed out.

“I could think you’d want back to your place,”

“I’m still not unpacked so,” Gen shrugged.

“We’d just be sitting in my place talking,” Senkuu noted.

“Well considering last time I was falling out of an airplane-,”

“Just drive,” Senkuu nudged.

“Awww but I have so much more to tease you on,” Gen looked at Senkuu with a smile and back out the window.

Senkuu looked and the soft smile on Gen’s lips. “Just go,”

“So ude ray,” Gen said but put his car into drive.

As the two entered the highway a few drops of water hit their windshield. It started off light but more and more the rain hit the glass. The car’s wipers swiped back and forth, giving Gen a second to get a clear view. They sat in a comfortable silence as Gen drove. Of course, the two would fall into their old habits of just sitting together and enjoying each other’s company. Senkuu looked over at Gen’s profile and saw the cheek his scar used to be on. Gen’s scar had disappeared years ago but thinking about it, it was weird not seeing it there.

“Care to tell me what you’re staring at?”

“Noticed huh?”

“Well I am still a mentalist,” Gen reminded.

“Just thinking about your scars,” Senkuu answered honestly.

“Oh my god yeah! God I haven't thought of my old scar in a while,” Gen recalled. “It used to match my personality so well too~,”

“Made you look shady,” Senkuu reminded.

“Exactly! Fit me so well,” Gen sang.

“I don’t know if I’d still call you shady though,”Senkuu added.

“Oh please Senkuu chan. My whole job is still to manipulate people for your benefit,” Gen scoffed. “But not with as much stress somehow,”

“Heh I guess you ten billion percent haven’t changed,” Senkuu cleaned out his ear with his pinky.

“Says you,” Gen rolled his eyes. “I bet your old deer dress is still at your place,”

“Like your old outfit isn’t at your place,”

“Shut up, I’m trying to make fun of you here,”

“Not going to work,” Senkuu grinned. “I know you too well,”

“You’re really are the orat way,” Gen said but his smile grew.

It felt good Senkuu knew he could make Gen smile like that. Gen pulled into a parking spot under an awning at Senkuu’s apartment complex. The rain still not letting up.

“I’m guessing we both didn’t bring an umbrella,” Gen noted.

“Nope,” Senkuu opened his side door.

“Well then,” Gen out of his side. “Race you?”

“That doesn’t help you stay dry mentalist. Plus you cold slip-,”

“Go!” Gen dashed off.

“Shit- Mentalist!” Senkuu dashed off after the other.

Gen made it under the roof of the apartment building first, drenched, Senkuu in toe.

“Damn it mentalist, you could have hurt yoursel-...,”

Gen started to laugh. “I know I know, But it’s been a while since I got to run in the rain like that.

God, as if it was possible for Senkuu to fall even more in love. “I love you,”

“Huh? What?” Gen calmed down from his laughter.

“I said I love you,” The smile faded from Gen’s face and Senkuu started to regret his words. “You don't have to say it back but I-,”

“No no, it’s not that,” Gen shook his head lightly. “You said it so suddenly with no warning. My heart was already racing with you and now- God, you’re going to give me a heart attack Senkuu chan,” Gen’s cold hand cradled Senkku’s cheek. “I love you too,”

Suddenly Senkuu understood what Gen meant Like his heart was going to jump out of his throat.

“You did that on purpose didn’t you?” Senkuu snickered.

“You know me so well,” Gen leaned in closer.

“Told you,”

The two leaned in closer until their lips meet. Both ther lips were still cold from the rain but it felt nice to kiss the other. They pressed as close as they could get, their clothes getting more damp but neither gave mind to it at that moment. Years of pining crashing on the two at once.
