Work Text:
It's the day before Penelope's birthday and Colin is leaving his job at the bakery with four eclairs, her favorite. They have a new flavor at the bakery and he knows that she'll love it.
When he arrives at their flat, he places them in the refrigerator, so that she can have them in the morning. Knowing he'll find the love of his life working in her office, he makes his way there. She's deep into her writing and doesn't notice him. He stands at the doorway and gazes at her. At seven months pregnant, she's absolutely glowing. Who would have thought that a 'simple' mix-up at the bakery would lead to this? Not only are they madly in love, but having a child as well.
"If you're going to keep staring at me, please bring me a cup of tea," Penelope says with a smirk, not even glancing up from her computer.
Caught, Colin walks over and kisses her on the top of her head before saying, "Hello to you, too. Anything else, my love?"
"That's all, unless you brought me something from work?" she inquired.
"It was supposed to be for tomorrow morning, but I did bring four," Colin teased. "I guess you can have one tonight."
Giddy with excitement, Penelope, closed her document and shut off her computer, eager to follow him to the kitchen.
"You go sit on the couch, and I will bring this to you. Put your feet up!" Colin calls out to Penelope while he is making her tea.
Penelope begrudgingly sits and puts her feet on the ottoman. The baby has grown quite a lot these past few weeks, and it's hard to find a comfortable position.
Colin returns with a tray holding a tea service and two chocolate eclairs, her favorite. "Here you are, your favorites. There are two others, a new flavor, pistachio, in the refrigerator for tomorrow morning. When you try it, call me and let me know what you think."

The next morning Penelope made her morning cuppa tea and grabbed one of the eclairs out of the refrigerator. She marveled that Colin had not eaten the second one, how odd! Then she saw the note written on the box.
"My beautiful Pen, I know you're wondering why I didn't eat the other eclair, and I hope that you realize that you are more important to me than a simple pastry will ever be.
Plus, I work at a bakery and I have one at work waiting for me! 😏
Love, Col"
Laughing at his antics, she took the eclair and her tea and sat at the breakfast bar. Absently scrolling through her social media, she bit down into the delicate pastry of the eclair. It was glorious! She had never tasted anything so delicious and she hurriedly took another bite. Absolutely the best eclair she had ever eaten.
She started to feel a little weird, a bit dizzy, which was not unusual being seven months pregnant, so she decided to lay down for a few minutes. Besides, today was her birthday and she could do what she wanted. She lay down on her bed and was quickly fast asleep.
When she awoke, she blinked in surprise. Not only did she feel well rested, which was a very odd occurrence in her present pregnant state, she felt oddly small. Reaching for her belly, it didn't seem to be any smaller than earlier. Thinking that it was just the odd remnants of a dream, she rolled over and sat up. She was startled to find that she, herself, was absolutely tiny with glittering wings. Like a fairy 🧚 from some fantasy book? A very 🤰pregnant fairy, at that!
'What on earth was going on here?
'Oh no! The eclair!' Remembering what had happened with the baby cake seven months earlier, and knowing that the eclair had come from the same bakery as that cake had her flying, quite literally, for the phone to call Colin. Only when she reached the phone, did she realize that she could not pick it up, as it was too heavy. 'Oh why did she place it face down??'
Her only choice would be to go to Colin, but if she cannot lift her phone, how would she open the door? In despair, Penelope flies to her counter and sits down next to the remainder of the eclair. She absently sticks her finger into the creme and then sucked it off, it really did taste amazing.
Rubbing her belly and with tears in her eyes, Penelope sighs, "What am I going to do? How will I ever get to Colin? What if he eats one of these bloody eclairs? Of course, he probably already has!"
She then hears a light tapping coming from the other side of the kitchen. She looks around and doesn't see anything. The tapping gets more insistent, so she flies (she still cannot believe she's actually flying) over to investigate. When she gets close to the window above her sink, she hears what she thinks is a small voice… 'Was that her name?'
"Pen! Penelope! Look at the window!"
She finally looks at the window, which is cracked open slightly and sees a tiny fairy-like Colin. Rolling her eyes, because of course he ate the eclairs, Penelope flits over to the crack.
"Penelope, are you okay? I've been so worried about you. I called you to warn you not to eat those bloody eclairs as soon as this happened to me, but you did not answer your phone, they are magical like the cake!"
Penelope stares at him wide eyed and looks down at herself. "Really? I hadn't noticed."
"I'm so sorry, Pen. I didn't know this would happen. I flew all the way home. Well, not entirely, I actually got a ride on the back of a pigeon. Did you know that a pigeon will fly without stopping for hours? Thankfully, I had wings myself, so I was able to get off here. Could you open the door?"
"Colin, I am six inches tall and pregnant, I can't even flip my phone over. What makes you think I can open the door?" Pen says with tears in her eyes. "What are we going to do, Colin?"
"Pen, we will figure this out. Give me your hand, through this opening. Hmmmm… I wonder if I can fit through there?"
Colin reaches his arm through the small opening in the window and grabs Penelope's hand. He is able to fit his face through the opening, "Everything will be okay, I promise," he says and he pulls her down and kisses her gently.
Immediately, they both are returned to normal size. Pen is sitting in the sink while Colin is standing outside their kitchen window. However, the two are too emotional and involved in the kiss to notice right away.
