Work Text:

Kirishima and Bakugo don’t confess to each other in the traditional way.

There was always just something different about the way they felt about each other, how they felt around each other.

Something that was always, only, theirs.

It happens after a late night hang out in Eijiro’s dorm.

Katsuki lingers by the doorway, hands in his pajama pants pockets, kicking his feet.

Eijiro comes to give him his usual goodbye hug, something that always helped him sleep better at night.

Katsuki looks directly into Eijiro’s eyes as he walks toward him, the world feeling like it was slow motion, the night stars spilling through his balcony door following his sleepy footsteps.

Katsuki always thought he looked even more handsome that way, eyes droopy and squinty from sleep, a lip jutted forward after a yawn, hair already messy from almost falling asleep next to him.

Eijiro is about to wrap his arms around his waist, but Katsuki holds out an arm to stop him.

Eijiro’s mouth stutters open, but he doesn’t say anything.

Katsuki just keeps his palm on Eijiro’s chest, glancing into that tired swirl of cherry.

Before Katsuki himself can even process what’s happening, he grabs the front of Eijiro’s shirt to pull him forward.

“Ka—“

Katsuki cuts his best friend off with a kiss, pressing his lips against Eijiro’s. Letting his grip wrinkle the fabric of Eijiro’s ridiculous shark shirt.

It’s awkward, their noses scrunched together, Katsuki maybe pressing a little too hard, Eijiro still falling from surprise.

But when the shock leaves them both, it feels like heaven.

They fall into each other, just like they’ve always had. Lips pressed against fated lips.

Their kiss felt like home and excitement all at the same time. The night sky dancing across the room as the world fades to the background. Only the sensation of Eijiro’s sweetly rough lips against Katsuki’s.

When they pull apart, Eijiro smiles, then yawns right in Katsuki’s face.

“Go to sleep, Eij.” He chuckles, his hand finally releasing its hold on his t-shirt.

Eijiro watches Katsuki close his door in a daze, walking back to his bed. Hoping when he wakes up, it wasn’t a dream.

The next morning, when Katsuki comes to borrow some toothpaste cause he had run out, Eijiro doesn’t even give him a chance to say good morning.

He pulls him in for a kiss right away, his hands coming to caress the sides of Katsuki’s face.

Katsuki smiles into their kiss, he himself wondering if last night was just a cruel figment of his imagination.

Eijiro laughs when they pull apart,  “Wasn’t a dream.” He says, breathless.

When they walk to school, Eijiro leaves Katsuki with a kiss as he walks to his desk, taking his chin in his hand and giving him small pecks before more of their classmates trickle in.

As the school day ends, their afternoon study session turning into another late night hang out, Katsuki lingers by the door again.

Eijiro doesn’t even hesitate to kiss his favorite pair of lips, getting all the kisses he can before they’re separated by dreamland.

“I can stay here.” Katsuki mumbles, grabbing one of Eijiro’s hands.

“Yeah, that sounds awesome.”

They both laugh at themselves, wondering why they’ve just never done that before.

Eijiro turns off his lights and leads Katsuki back to his bed.

And laying next to each other, arms wrapped around waists and legs tangled, it’s another thing that just feels so right..

Another thing that feels like it was all their own.

Eijiro is convinced that he’s dreaming again. Because the way Katsuki looks, eyes closed, his breaths becoming slower and heavier, holding on to him like he never wanted to let go, Katsuki is for sure his dream come true.

Kirishima and Bakugo may have not confessed in the most traditional way, but their love for each other wasn’t traditional in the first place.

It was something created from the second they opened their hearts to each other, an exchange before they even knew they were each other’s.
