Ralsei nodded to Noelle, “Of course, Noelle. My room will always be open to you until your renovation is done.” The lightners had decided to sleep over in the dark world tonight. Susie usually did, but Noelle’s mother wouldn’t let her sleep over at a “friend’s house” so she had to sneak out, and Kris—The fluffy monster felt the tug of his scarf coming from behind him. Kris looked at him with an apathetic face. They began signing to him, “Would you like to sleep with me while Noelle takes your room?” Ralsei’s face flushed. They had slept beside each other before, but not alone. Susie had always been there. Before long, Ralsei noticed he had forgotten to respond, “Um, well I. Um, yes. That would be wonderful, Kris!” The human was smiling at Ralsei’s efforts to sound normal. Noelle spoke up as well, “I can wait until my room is done if you’d like. It is really no issue, Ralsei! Sneaking in and out is no problem for me.” Ralsei shook his head, “No, no. I want you to take the room! Besides, you’ll need a good rest to get up in time to get back to your house.” Noelle laughed. There wasn’t much more time for conversation; Kris grabbed Ralsei’s hand and Noelle waved goodbye before heading into Ralsei’s quarters.
The entire walk to Kris’ room felt so quiet. Ralsei kept his eyes on the ground, his face flushed. When they arrived Kris started taking off the armor that the dark world presented them with every time they entered the closet. Ralsei looked away to give them privacy. Of course, Ralsei had other clothes too, but he wasn’t in his own room. None of his clothes were in here. Kris tapped Ralsei’s shoulder. They were in the undershirt and shorts that their armor rested on. Eventually, they signed, “You can change into something from my closet.'' Ralsei shook their head, flushing more, “Oh no, Kris. I’m fine! I’ll just wait until tomorrow.” The human shook their head back and their face morphed into a smile that somewhat looked like a smirk, “Come on, here.” With that, Kris threw some of their clothes over to the monster. It was a huge t-shirt with a video game logo on the front that looked like a heart. Ralsei remembered Kris telling him about the shirt in some kind of store in Hometown and decided to get it for him in the dark world. It was only right to get Kris something they couldn’t have in the over world. Ralsei smiled contently and Kris turned back around as well.
The two had finished changing and Kris was already getting into bed. They slid into the side nearest to the wall and Ralsei followed. Ralsei turned over to face the edge of the bed when he received another tap from Kris. “Can you get the lamp?” They asked. Ralsei hesitated, not completely understanding them at first, but then it registered and he gave out a sound of agreement. Ralsei’s claw flipped the switch of the lamp, making the room almost completely dark, but the accents around the room still had a certain faint glow to them. When Ralsei turned back from the lamp over to face the wall, Kris had inched closer to him, looking at him through their hair. “Oh my,” Ralsei started, “You don’t see that often.” Kris’ eyes widened, though not very visible. “What?” They signed. “Those pretty scarlet eyes of yours, Kris.” Saying this, Ralsei took a paw and gently brushed up Kris’ messy bangs out of their face. They didn’t really stay that way, they flopped right back when Ralsei moved his hand; but you could see one of their eyes much better.
This time, Kris was the one who’s face flushed. Ralsei’s too, but he didn’t have a shocked expression. He was smiling. Ralsei wasn’t usually the one who would make a move in these situations. Neither would he this time. What if he made Kris uncomfortable? Of course, he never felt uncomfortable when Kris would randomly hug him or give him things. He loved when Kris did that. The two sat in silence just looking at each other. Ralsei began avoiding eye contact, looking down at the sheets of the bed in-between them. Then he felt Kris’ hands on both sides of his face. He made eye contact again. The human moved forward and moved his head down a little, giving him a light kiss on the forehead. Ralsei’s head was spinning and his heart was racing; but he didn’t say anything. The blue light seemed to be bouncing off the walls much more vibrantly. Kris moved a hand to Ralsei’s back and used it to maneuver closer to him. Ralsei noticed they were doing it slowly to make sure he was ok with it; which made him all the more happier. Ralsei wrapped his arms around Kris’ torso and pulled them in the rest of the way. It wasn’t really happiness that Ralsei was feeling, but more of an extreme comfort. Maybe it was the same thing. He didn’t really care. He just wanted to feel the arms that were wrapped around his neck and Kris’ torso pushed up against his. They were intertwined in a hug. Imagining a hug is one thing, actually hugging someone is another. The touch felt like pure happiness; pure comfort. Ralsei put his legs around Kris’. He didn’t really know why he did. Maybe it was an attempt to pull him closer. Any attempt to do so was a little worthless, they were already as close as they could be; but they both tried to. As if nothing was enough. Ralsei felt Kris brushing a hand through the fur on the back of his head. Ralsei’s tail was waving slowly. The two just sat like that for a while. Smushed together with Kris brushing their fingers through Ralsei’s fur. And they liked it that way.

Ralsei couldn’t see how the situation could get any better. There was no closer they could be. Kris would always find a way. They began pulling apart from Ralsei and the monster tried to tug them back, but to no avail. He felt foolish to think it would last forever. Ralsei avoided eye contact as Kris put their hands back onto his face. Before he knew it, Kris gave them another kiss. It took him a minute to realize where the kiss was. Not on his cheek. Not on his forehead. On his mouth. And their lips were still there. On his mouth. Ralsei let the shock fade away and closed his eyes. He held Kris in his arms again and wrapped his legs around theirs. Every kiss made them closer. Both of them were falling asleep as they kissed, but they couldn’t seem to stop. The kisses were soft, short, and sweet. Nothing either of them were uncomfortable with. Ralsei didn’t seem to notice how slow they were kissing while he fell asleep. Kris did. They kissed Ralsei until they knew he was asleep. Then they rested their head on the pillow facing them.
