my favorite place is inside your hug

Summary:

Stiles can sometimes be rude. He blames that on the socially awkward aspect of his personality. He doesn’t always know what to say or things to do in certain situations. Especially if the situation involves a hot, very pissed-off guy. But he’s never an asshole.

“Okay. I’m sorry.” Stiles breathes out. “Yes, I’m not paying enough attention. It has been stressful the past few months with the wedding and all. I barely slept yesterday. I’m sorry.”

The guy's face softens. “That’s fine. Apologies accepted.”

They press close to each other right now. Stiles’ eyes keep traveling from the guy’s emerald eyes to his slightly tilted mouth, very kissable. Oh fuck, what is he thinking, he just met the guy five minutes ago and almost slam into his car and now Stiles wants to bang him? What is wrong with him?

Derek and Stiles meet at a wedding, in the most unpredictable situation ever.

Notes:

So before this, I wrote a wedding drabble based on a tumblr prompt, and the idea of Derek and Stiles's wedding just won’t leave my head. But I couldn’t decide what type of wedding to write for them. Then I stumbled upon a buzz feed thread about failed wedding situations and it was so hilarious, here’s a series of it.
First, Scott and Allison’s wedding.

Work Text:

After a long period of being each other's high school sweetheart, Scott and Allison finally tied the knot. Scott bought the ring, but Stiles knew it was Allison who proposed first because Scott yelled that to him in excitement over the phone.

Obviously, Stiles is Scott’s best man, while Lydia is the maid of honor. He knows a thing or two about weddings, but he’s never known that it involved many things in planning. He didn’t expect the ten pages long list of things to check out and stuff to order. But luckily, Lydia wants to handle the nitty-gritty of the process, claiming that she doesn’t trust Stiles with things that require taste. Stiles is offended, he has taste, just different from her. Not anyone can taste test twelve types of champagnes and distinguish them or recognize the difference between beige and cream. But if you want to know the top 10 DC comics, in Stiles' opinion, or the best Doritos flavor ever invented, Stiles is your man. Lydia just scoffed at that. So Stiles takes care of the speech instead.

He has been planning for the speech for weeks. Having suffered through their on-off relationship, countless times covering for their mischievous rendezvous, Stiles has a lot of tales to tell at the reception. And boy, will he tell all of them. The least they can do is allow him to have a little fun at the wedding. He can tell them the fact that Scott’s broken arm in his junior year was not because of a misstep on the stairs, but actually, because he was trying to climb into Allison’s room through the roof. It was rainy the day before, so he slipped and fell down on the front porch. Or about the time they temporarily broke up and refused to talk to each other, so Stiles had to become the messenger between them. He felt like he just entered a marathon that day running between two buildings on campus. He even made a video for them, with Danny's help, of course.

----------

After months of preparation and anxiously waiting, the wedding is finally here.

They’re sitting in this small outdoor venue by the lake. White and gold drapery was hung all over the enormous tree where the minister stood. Flower petals scattered along the walkway. Children laughing, sounding like wind chimes. Family and friends are all happily chatting. There was some bad blood between the McCall and the Argent before, but all is good now. When the soft piano starts, the guests go silent and turn to face the bride. Allison appears with her dad, mermaid dress gliding on the carpet and brown curly locks framing her bright smile, her eyes shining with love. It’s like a fairy tale when the prince and his lady got their perfect happy ending. Scott cries when they exchange the vows. And Stiles? Stiles is sobbing.

They kiss, and the crowd erupts in applause. People are throwing flowers, popping, and spraying champagne when the newlyweds pass through.

 ----------

Outside, Stiles, Scott, and Allison stand at the entrance, thanking the stream of guests and family who are leaving.

“Oh my god, you're married!” Stiles says between hiccups, wipes away the tears “You’re going to have six children, and you're going to forget about me.”

Scott winds his hand around Stiles' shoulder, the other still holding Allison’s hand “No one is forgetting you. You’re always our love child.”

“But you’re going away,” Stiles says and smudges his hand on the nearby table overflowing with gifts and ribbons.

“For our honeymoon!” Allison smiles at him, then turns around and hugs one of her cousins. “Do you want to come with us to Paris?”

“Ah. No.” Thinking about that, Stiles suddenly has a chill. No, he doesn't want to be there on their honeymoon, it’s gross. Even though he loves his friend, just the idea alone sends a chill down his spine.

Deciding that this much crying is enough, Stiles grabs both of his friend's arms. “Picture times!”

They join in with the crew, who are gathering around the photographer, waiting for a picture. Jackson and Danny are arguing about something. Lydia has her hand around her girlfriend, Cora, whom she met online last year, and is now paying them a visit. They don’t hang out together like this anymore, all too busy with their own lives and relationships. Stiles can’t help but notice he is the only one in their group without a significant other.

“Oh, don’t be sad, Stiles. There are nine billion people in this world.” It’s like Lydia can read his mind. “Surely someone will want you.”

“That's the problem! How can you find your love if there are nine other billion people?” Jackson says. Stiles asks himself that very question every day.

“I’m sure you’ll find them, Stiles.” Cora nods and smiles at him.

“We’re at a wedding, guys. Can we be happy for Scott and Allison and not talk about my love life for once?” Stiles shakes his head and pats Scott’s back. “And who knows, maybe I can get it with the bridesmaid.” He wiggles his eyebrow.

“Ew. Gross!” The gang throws up their arms while Stiles holds his belly and laughs louder.

----------

Unfortunately, after the wedding, they had to have the reception at a different venue, two miles away from here. Not the ideal plan, but they only found out about the double booking mistake at the last minute. So when the pictures are taken, they all return to their own car to travel to the next venue.

“I’ll see you at the hotel, Scott. Just wait for my speech, you’ll cry your ass out.” Stiles shouts when he is next to his jeep.

Scott pokes his head out of the window. “Can’t wait! Remember, Stiles, the reception is in two hours, plenty of times. So don’t be late”

Stiles arrives at the hotel with forty minutes to spare. Scott, Allison, and Lydia are probably already on the floor to check in on everything. Stiles wants to go faster, but he is exhausted from helping Lydia yesterday. He has to carry tables, set up chairs, and hang the drapery himself.

“Don’t we have people for this?” Out of breath from carrying his fifth table, he complained to Lydia, who has her nose in her mini notepad, checking things off.

“We do. But I thought you wanted to contribute something. Now the gold Chiavari chairs are going over there. Chop chop! ”

Stiles rolled his eyes, accepted his fate. His back still hurts today.

Lost in his thought, Stiles jumps when he sees another car appear in front of him, right when he is about to turn into the parking spot. He presses his foot down, his jeep skidding on the road from the sudden stop just before he hit that car. Unbelievable, he doesn’t have time for this kind of trouble. He has a reception to go to. Mumbling, Stiles climbs out of his seat, rounds over to the driver's side of the mentioned car.

“Hey. You asshole. What kind of driving is that? I almost bumped into you.” He knocks furiously on the window.

When it rolls all the way down, Stiles' eyes widen as the hottest guys he has ever seen turn to him. “What?”

“I said I almost bumped into you.” He fumbles, already losing half the will to fight. Goddammit, his tendency to sympathize with gorgeous people.

He just raises his eyebrow at him, as if waiting for him to continue.

“Well. Are you going to apologize?” Stiles crosses his arm in front of him.

The guy removes his sunglasses. Who wears sunglasses in the car? “Didn’t you say you almost bumped into me? Then shouldn’t you be the one who apologizes?”

Stiles' mouth drops. The audacity of this guy. “Your car appeared from nowhere!”

“I was parking my car. It’s your fault you aren’t paying enough attention.” He unlocks his belt, grabs what seems to be a guitar case from the passenger seat, and steps out of the car. Standing next to him, Stiles realizes this guy is nearly a head taller than him. He notices that too and smirks. Not letting the stranger win, Stiles opens his arm and steps in the way of him.

“Hey! You are staying here until I get an apology.” Stiles raises his eyebrow in a challenge, determined to stand his ground.

“Don’t you have somewhere to go and not stand in my way like a child?” He takes in Stiles' attire of pink vest and flower pin. “Like a circus or something?”

“A circus?” Stiles screeches. “This is custom made”. It was Lydia’s idea. She stated that there's no way that he was going to the wedding as the best man and looking like her grandfather just came back to life. So she dragged him to the tailor and forced him to stay still for three hours. Stiles loves this suit, okay. It was his blood, sweat, and tears. Literally . He still has pin marks from when the tailor nicked him when he was fidgeting around.

“For you? Yeah, I see it now.”

“That’s it. Apologize. Or I’m not going anywhere and neither will you.” Stiles glares at him.

“I have a party to play at and I don’t think they will appreciate their main entertainer being held out on the street by a random guy.” He gestures at his guitar case.

“Well, that's your problem. My best friend is the groom at the wedding I’m attending, so I think he's going to understand why I’m standing here.”

“We’re both in a hurry for our party, and I may have not seen you in my rear mirror. So I’m sorry. Okay.” He scratches his head, sounding genuine. Maybe he’s not that bad after all.

Stiles smiles triumphantly, eyes twinkling, and fist pumps in the air. “Thanks, dude. Appreciated it.” Then he walks away.

“Wait a minute.” That guy follows him “That’s it? Where is your apology?”

“It was your fault.” Stiles ignores him and continues to walk.

“I apologize, and it’s your turn. It’s common sense.”

“Not if you’re the one at fault.”

“You weren’t paying attention!” He shouts in the middle of the walkway, making other bystanders look at them.

They are still bickering when they reach the hotel revolving door, push it open and enter the grand lobby. Stiles speeds up, putting a small distance between him and the shouting guy. Just a bit more then Stiles will enter the elevator and never see him again. But the guy pushes his leg, jams the elevator door, and forces it to open out again. He stares at a wide-eyed Stiles. The door closes, trapping them together in a small place.

The guy steps forward, grabs Stiles' shirt, and practically slams him to the wall, making him yelp an embarrassed sound.

“Dude! Personal space!” Stile’s hands come up and grab the guy’s arm. He’s afraid the guy’s going to drop him. His feet are dangling in the air.

“Listen here, I’m being very reasonable.” He says, eyes flickering over Stiles' face, taking in his moles. “We’re both at fault earlier. I want an apology.”

Stiles' eyes keep traveling from the guy’s emerald eyes to his slightly tilted mouth, very kissable. Oh fuck, what is he thinking, he just met the guy five minutes ago and almost slam into his car and now Stiles wants to bang him? What is wrong with him?

“Can you put me down now?” He asks, his voice sounds rough.

“Oh. Sorry.” The guy drops him down to his feet. Stiles' ears perk up at the husky sound. He isn’t the only one affected by this. He hasn’t stepped away from him, instead, he extends his hand to Stiles “We got off on the wrong foot. So hi, my name’s Derek. I’m a musician.”

“Hi Derek, the musician, I’m Stiles.” He’s dumbfounded. Derek laughs, his voice crystal clear.

The light suddenly flickers on top of their head. Stiles' brows furrow and glance at Derek to see that he is just like him.

“What the-” A screeching noise of metal colliding with the wall echo from somewhere, creating a loud bang , and the elevator jumps up then stops completely, causing Stiles to lose his balance and fall face-first into the ground. Derek’s arms caught him just in time and held him to his chest, preventing that. The light goes out for real this time, drowning everything in darkness. The faint glow of the button panel is their only light source now.

“Fuck! No way!” Stiles exclaims, “What’s happening?” He gets closer to the control pane and starts pushing the buttons. Nothing happens. He pushes the emergency call button and screams, “Hey! Can anyone hear us? We’re stuck in the elevator. Please send help.” No one answers.

“Fuck!” He checks his phone, no signal.

“Stiles,” Derek says, causing Stiles to turn back and see his pale face. “Dude, why are you so pale?” Derek collapses and starts hyperventilating.

“Oh, my god!” Stiles rushes to him and kneels down next to Derek, cradling his face “What happened to you?”

“Claustrophobia” Derek bites out.

“Oh. Oh fuck. And we are stuck in an elevator now. And you’re having a panic attack. I think I’m having a panic attack, too. What about Scott, if I don't show up, he will freak out too? Oh, my god. What should I do?” Stiles rushes out, tilts Derek’s head closer to his face. Derek is still hyperventilating, his brow pinches together, mouth opens in quick gasps. Stiles can feel Derek’s heart pounding against his palm.

“Okay okay. Panic attack. Okay. How about you breathe with me.” Stiles holds Derek closer and presses his face to his chest. “Yeah, breathing is good. Listen to my heartbeat, sync your breath with me.” He takes one slow, big breath and hears Derek do the same. “That’s right. Nice and slow.”

They repeat that a couple more times. Stiles strokes Derek's hair, waiting until Derek stops shaking completely. “Hey. Are you okay now?” Derek nods, head still buried in Stiles' shirt.

“Uhmm. Talk to me.” Derek mumbles, his hand grips on Stiles' sleeve.

“Huh. What is that?”

“Talk to me. My mother used to do that whenever I had an episode. I can't stand the silence.”

For the first time, someone actually asked him to talk and not the other way around. Stiles is shocked but recovers quickly and starts talking.

“What do you want to talk about? How about pets? Do you have a pet? I wanted a dog once, but my dad said it was too much of a responsibility for me. I was ten that day.” Stiles smiles remembering back.

“So naturally, I brought home a lizard the day after.” Derek snickers, his breath tickles Stiles' neck.

“I plead and plead saying that a lizard is a much better pet, and it wouldn’t cost much, and it would calm my hyperactive ass down. So he agreed.”

“I named it Jackson, just to spite my friend, whose name is also Jackson, well he wasn’t my friend at first, but we’re better now, ever since he finally got that stick out of his ass. So whenever he has to come over and do homework, I would introduce them together like hey Jackson meet Jackson. And they would stare at each other all day.”

“You’re such a brat you know that, right?” Derek whispers.

“Indeed I am.”

Stiles shares that his favorite trilogy is Lord of The Rings, and how Gandalf can call upon an eagle, but he still makes others walk the entire journey, whereas they could have flown. How awesome would that be? Or how Aragorn’s ass is so delectable in those horse-riding scenes. And the time that Stiles would insist on eating every sticky taffy available when he came to his grandma's house, and return with almost ruined teeth.

They talk about Derek’s wild college journey and how he switched majors in the middle of college from engineering to music. Derek admits that his guilty pleasure band is Queens, and he knows all of their song’s lyrics. He tells Stiles about his extended family in New York and how it feels like to grow up with a nearly all-girls household. There’re a lot of embarrassing moments in his teenage years.

It goes on for what feels like forever and they completely forget about the wedding. The wedding . Stiles suddenly remembers, he looks frantically down his watch, he’s thirty minutes late now, surely someone should have noticed. Oh, Scott and Allison will kill him now. He grimaces.

Suddenly, the light turns on again, blinding Stiles' eyes for a moment. He uses his hand to shield Derek's face from the light. Electricity hums when the elevator comes back to life. And like that, the door cracks open, letting the hallway light shine into the small space. Scott’s face peaks in.

“Oh, my god. Stiles. Are you okay?” Stiles looks up at Scott who is still in his vest and Allison and several employees behind him. “And why are you hugging our guitarist?”

“Scott. You don’t know how much I love you right now.” Stiles smiles and bent down to speak to Derek “Hey buddy, it’s over, people are here to get us out now.”

Derek’s eyes are still closed. He buries further in Stiles' chest.

Stiles hears some loud noise when the door is being forced open further by a gigantic machine. Then, a firefighter reaches his hand in, gesturing at Derek. “Okay, he first then we’ll get you out later.”

“Dude, you have firefighters at your wedding. What a story to tell your kid in the future.” Stiles grins and helps Derek move to the entrance. The guy grabs Derek’s middle and hauls him up through the crack.

“My best man was missing, and we found out that he was stuck in the elevator with our entertainer. Yeah, that’s a great story.” Scott shakes his head.

“How do you guys find out about us, anyway?” Stiles asks while checking on Derek. He looks much better now than he was before, his face gaining back some color.

“We were waiting for you but no one could contact you, then we asked the manager and he said he saw you guys already come in the hotel earlier. We went down and checked, but the elevator was broken. So we put two and two together.”

“We were so worried.” Allison hugs him.

“Oh shit. Did I ruin the reception?”

“No, it’s not your fault, and the food isn't served yet, so we can make it back in time for your speech.”

“Thank god, I have been writing that for a week now.” Stiles spin around and walk to Derek’s side. “Hey. You’re okay?”

Derek’s drinking from a water bottle. He wipes his hand on his mouth and nods. “Much better.”

“Do you think you can still play?”

“Yeah, for what it's worth, after surviving that, the adrenaline boost is nice.” Derek adjusts his guitar case.

When Stiles smiles and turns away, Derek quickly grabs his elbow. “Thank you. What you’ve done for me there.”

Stiles faces him completely, taking in his blushed face. “Oh.” His face reddened too. “Everyone would have done that to help you.”

“But only you were there.”

“Guys? I need my best man and my entertainer here! Hello? Earth to lovebirds?” Scott waves his hand. “You guys can ogle each other later. We have a wedding to attend.”

Stiles beams then take Derek’s hand in his and squeeze tight. “Let’s go.”

----------

“Excuse me, everyone.” Stiles holds his glass and stands up. “I would like to say a few words. Ladies and gentlemen, I wish you all a wonderful afternoon. We are all gathered here today to celebrate the wedding of two amazing people. I am, of course, talking about Scott and Allison!

Over these past few days, my excitement and nerves seem to have been all over the place, but finally, on the day of the wedding itself, my only feelings are of pride and happiness. Well, and a bit scared too considering the heart-dropping situation I’ve just been in the last hours. It made me rethink a bit about my goals in life, relationship and love wise and how you can never really expect what will happen to you.”

Stiles scratches his hair and laughs. Eyes scan over the room and land on Derek. He smiles.

“But this is not about me. Today is about Scott and Allison. What an absolute honor and pleasure it is to be standing up here as Scott’s best man. Seeing how happy Scott is, I feel his same happiness. I could almost be the groom myself! Although Allison, I love you, but not that kind of love haha.

If you were to ask me what Scott means to me as a friend, I’ll give you a three-word summary of him. Best. Friend. Ever. Safe to say, Scott and I have committed our fair share of stupidity over the years. You can ask my dad about that, he’s the sheriff.”

He gestures to his father sitting in the crowd. Noah shakes his head while the whole room laughs.

“But marrying Allison today is the cleverest move he ever made. Allison, just as when I saw Scott, I knew we were going to be great friends. I also knew that you were going to be the right woman for him.

Finally, I want you all to raise your glasses and your voices, and wish Scott and Allison all the very best in their new life together! Cheers!”

Scott’s eyes are brimming with tears. He reaches over and hugs Stiles. “Thanks, man.”

“Oh wait. I forgot.” Stiles stands up again, this time with a mischievous grin on his face. “That is the formal speech. Now, this is a Stilinski speech. Danny, play the video.”

“Oh god.”

“You think I don’t remember about the video, huh Scott. Enjoy it!”

“I hate you so much.” Scott drags his hand down his face, groaning at the embarrassing shit he used to say and do on video. Allison is giggling uncontrollably next to him.

“You love me.”

----------

Stiles is drinking his Mac Nut Martini and playing with the tiny umbrella when Derek slides in and sits next to him. He has changed into his formal wear, now wearing a nice white suit.

“Why aren’t you joining in with your friend?” Stiles' heart seems to leap into his throat at the sound of Derek’s voice.

“I don’t dance that well.” Stiles laughs. He feels a bit flushed from the drink. He thinks back about early, how they have connected in ways he has never with anyone else. How his secrets, things he has hidden since forever, are easily shared with him.

“Dance with me then, I’ll lead.” Derek offers his hand.

“I thought you were supposed to play.” Stiles trails the arm that is extended in front of him, eyes linger at the exposed skin.

“Other guys in the band can handle it. Plus, I want to be your first dance.”

“Okay. Why not.” Stiles takes Derek’s hand and lets him be dragged to the middle of the floor.

“This is ridiculous. I’m drunk and I can’t dance.”

“Relax. Just follow my lead.” Derek takes Stiles' arms and puts it around his neck while his own reaches down and hugs Stiles' waist. As they slide to the music, he realizes this new song they were now dancing to was much slower than the last one, much more intimate .

“This is crazy,” Stiles whispers.

“And why is that?” Derek leans in, resting his forehead on Stiles'.

“It seems like everything important happened to me today, it’s quite overwhelming. My best friend got married. I was scared for the rest of my life. And I met you .”

“I’m one of the important parts?” Derek grins.

“Yeah. The most important. Actually.” Stiles admits “I have a serious re-look at my life. And there’s something I would regret immensely if I don’t take the chance for it.”

They stare into each other's eyes for a while. Then Stiles notices someone keeps looking at them.

“Why does Lydia's girlfriend keep checking you out?”

“Who?” Derek's head turns to the other side of the dance floor. “Oh. That’s my sister Cora. I’m here because she asked me to play for her friend’s wedding.”

“That still doesn’t explain the look on her face.”

“She’s just surprised. I don’t normally do intimate things.” Derek hesitates, then adds. “Do you want to leave? With me. Like right now.”

Stiles beams and nods. They are both giggling and fumbling out of the dance floor and can’t keep their hands off each other, earning a couple of sneers from Stiles' friend. They make it to the bathroom at least.

Stiles pulls Derek in the small cubic and crashes his mouth on him. They kiss as their life depends on it. Their bodies press together, grinding heavily against the wall. Stiles could taste their shared breath, feel the thud of their combined heartbeat as they frantically reach for each other's clothes.

Derek’s hand feels so hot on his bare skin. No one has touched him like this before. He has only imagined it in his wildest dream, where someone holds him so dearly like he’s the most precious thing of them.

His hand smooths down Stiles' torso and cups his straining cock. Stiles moans and breaks the kiss, head tilts back, exposing his neck. Derek’s mouth is on it instantly, sucking and licking it, his hand reaches down Stiles' brief and grabs his cock. Stiles let out a high pitch yelp. Derek chuckles and starts stroking it using the pre-cum.

His hand came up and tangled in Derek’s hair with a pleased groan.

“Hold up.” Derek pants out and moves away from Stiles. Losing the heat of another body, Stiles snaps his eyes open to the image of Derek trying to get his fly down.

“Jesus Christ. I hate suit pants.”

Stiles laughs and grabs Derek's belt loop and pulls him in, helping him with his pants. They manage to get both his and Derek's pants off and are on each other again in a second. Derek presses forward until they can get both of their cocks in their hands.

“Fuck.” Stiles grunts out, too sensitive from all the contact. Derek’s head is resting on Stiles' shoulder, face press into his neck, moaning. Their cocks are sliding sinfully on each other, slick with pre-cum.

“I’m not going to last, Stiles!” He said breathlessly, mouth dotting kisses on Stiles' chin. Their hands are moving impossibly fast, matching with their heartbeat, both are chasing their impending climax.

“Oh God.” Stiles screams out, stumbles over the edge, and drags Derek with him. They cum all over his and Derek’s suit.

“Oops. We messed up the suits.” He adds, mouth still panting from the exhaustion.

Derek smirks, crinkling his eyes, and leans in for another kiss.

“Fuck! Stiles! Derek! You guys did not just hook up at my wedding!” Scott’s voice explodes in the small room. “I can’t fucking believe you two.”

They look at each other. Stiles' brow lifts and wiggles. They both laugh out loud, ignoring Scott still screaming in the background. What an eventful day indeed.

---------

Three months later.

Stiles moved to New York with Derek after he got his degree. They haven't lived together yet because Stiles doesn’t want to bother Derek’s roommate. They talked about getting their own place but nothing concrete.

Derek is cooking in the kitchen when Stiles comes barging in and screams loudly.

“My dad is getting married!”

“Jesus, Stiles, too loud for 8 AM.” Isaac groggily yaps at him on the couch.

“Then wake up, loser!” Stiles grins at him and jumps into Derek’s open arms. “He finally proposed to Melissa. The wedding is in two weeks.”

“That fast?” Derek questions.

“They just want a small party, nothing huge.” Stiles reaches up and kisses Derek. “You’ll be there with me, right?”

“Of course.” Derek caresses Stiles' cheek lovingly.

“Ugh. Get a room.”

“You’re invited too, Isaac.”

“Do I have to go?”

“Yes.” They both say “If you still want to live here.”

“Fuck.”
