Chapter 1: Easy to Breathe

Chapter Text

Izuku was nervous. Their mom had been acting odd for the last few days, and that made them cautious. Its dad wasn't there anymore and that made mom act… odd. Izuku heard clanking from the kitchen, and looked up from their notebook. “Mom?? Everything okay in there?” they called

“Yes Izu-kun, just dropped a pan!”

It wasn't sure about what kind of emotions it was feeling right now. It went back to taking notes, summarizing the passage they had just written, for future reference. They paused, the movement from the kitchen had stopped.

“Dinner is ready!!”

The call echoed around the apartment, and they closed the notebook for now. It had dinner to get to after all.

“What's for dinner tonight mom??” They called heading towards the dining room. There was just quiet, which just made it concerned, so they headed towards the kitchen instead. Their mom was just standing in the middle of the kitchen staring at the sink.

“Mom?? Is everything okay?”

She took a deep inhale, before looking at them. “Oh, Izuku yes everything’s okay. Could you grab plates?”

They nodded slowly, before heading towards the cabinets and grabbing the plates, heading into the dining room. Their mom followed after, and -quite close at that- with the hot pot before the both of them set down the contents of their hands. “Mom, have you grabbed utensils??” Izuku asked. Its mom simply shook her head, and their brows furrowed, turning to go and grab utensils for their dinner. After grabbing chopsticks, it ventured into the dining room again.

They blinked slowly, finding their mom staring into space again. It set down one pair of chopsticks, and gently waved the other pair in front of their moms face. “Oh Izuku!! I didn't notice you there, sorry dear.” Inko hurried to her side of the table before sitting down.

“It’s… it's fine mom, dont worry about it.” They sat in their chair across from its mom.

“Ikedaisemu!!” They coursed (Wow i think i got that right the first time!)

Now, dinner tasted a bit… off, but they ate it anyways. Didnt want to seem ungrateful, so they ate every morsel before telling their mom “Dinner was great tonight mom, thank you for making it!”

Inko smiled dazedly, “Im glad you liked it Izuku, want me to run a bath for you?”

It blinked in surprise, it had been a while since their mom offered to do that. Might as well do it for old times sake. “Sure mom that sounds great.” Their mom walked through the doorway and out of its sight. They got ready to grab the dishes, and heard the faucet in the bathroom start to run.

“Izu dear? The bath is ready!”

It blinked, surprised. Had it really been enough time for their mom to fill the tub? It looked down and noticed that the dishes were mostly done, they must have been zoning then. It padded towards the bathroom, opening the mostly closed door when they got there. “Mom?” it asked hesitantly

“Oh sweetheart! I didn't hear you come in!”

They started to undress in preparation for the bath. Once done it stepped into the bath and sat down, reaching for the soap bottle. They were stopped by their mother. “Oh no dear let me do that, it's been a while.” They blinked but nodded in agreement, setting its hands back into the water. Leaning back they closed their eyes, humming as its mother massaged their scalp.

“Okay Izu, I’m gonna wash it out now,” Its mother said

They nodded, and let its mom submerge their head. They expected to be let up after a few seconds, but its mom didn't let them up. It was approaching 20 seconds when it started to panic, grasping at their mom’s forearms and trying to pull her hands off so they could get up. Its legs thrashed pushing at the edge of the tub trying to push up. Their lungs were starting to burn, and it felt like an eternity since it had been pushed under.

Their lungs finally let out the rest of its air, and the water burned like hellfire going down their esophagus. Black started to edge in on its vision, and their legs kicked weakly and its hands desperately scratched a bit more on their mothers arms, before its limbs splashed into the water. Black engulfed their vision.

It woke up.

Agony lanced through their body making it scream, and curl into a ball, clutching at their face, which was the most centered place of agony. Its jaw moved weirdly, making them panic, but then the agony moved to its back. Rapidly getting worse, their vision started to black out again. It caught a glimpse of their hands digging into the floorboards, but they looked w r o n g. The black finally dragged it under.
