Summary
Ed spends a good chunk of the day staring at and/or making excuses to touch his co-innkeeper’s broad manly heroic chest anyway, so when Stede bites his lip and gives him an inviting look, it’s a no-brainer to reach out and run a thumb over one of his nipples.
“You ever play with yourself like this?” Ed asks. Stede looks more confused than coy as he shakes his head, but his eyes go half-lidded as he lets himself feel Ed’s touch. It’s a little tickly, a little tingly, and then the warmth starts flaring under the pad of Ed’s thumb, spreading down into his belly and lower. Stede grabs his wrist.
“Take your robe off and keep doing that.”
Ed grins. “Yes, sir. Right away, sir.”

Stede doesn't really know what he likes in bed (other than Edward Teach), so the innkeepers experiment. It goes extremely well. -

Summary
As Stede pulls the dinghy up the beach toward the marooned half of his crew, dripping with seawater and the sweat of almost five whole hours of impassioned rowing, said crew immediately comes running to cluster around him. They are bursting with silly questions, like “did you bring water” and “did you bring food” and “are you a mermaid”. They completely ignore Stede’s very important questions, like “where’s Ed” and “why are you all here” and “how’s Ed doing”.

They had touched before, of course. Living in close quarters with a person would be reason enough, even if the Tick wasn’t extremely physical by nature. He was well-versed in overly affectionate hugs or slaps on the back that sent the other person stumbling to the floor. The difference here is simple.
