A crack of sound. A swing. A miss.

“What was that?”
His grandfather didn’t answer right away. Just watched the screen like it meant something older than words.
“Baseball,” he said finally.
Eijun didn’t understand it. Not the rules. Not the reason. Not why missing could matter so much.
But when the pitcher threw again, he leaned forward without realizing it.
Like his body already knew it wanted to learn.
