This afternoon, Shane had been very good, sitting on the bed and watching while Ilya picked out their outfits. He liked when Shane did that, sat back and let Ilya make choices for him, and he knew that Shane loved it even more. Soft and easy, he’d let Ilya put him in a soft, tight sweater-- the nights still got chilly this early in the summer-- and a pair of black shorts that made his thighs look obscene. Good-naturedly, Dykstra had bumped shoulders with Shane upon their arrival, giving him an approving, lop-sided grin and saying, “Looking good, Hollander.”
Ilya had watched Shane’s throat bob as a shy smile split his face. Pride had bloomed in Ilya’s chest and he’d swept a hand around Shane’s waist, slow and warm and possessive in the way one feels up a trophy. Now, Ilya tucks his face down to put his nose to the crown of Shane’s head. He smells like sweat and dandruff shampoo and Ilya’s cologne, which Ilya had sprayed on his clothes. The others had noticed, once, that Shane usually smells like Ilya, and had made a few teasing comments about them being so glued together that they used the same cologne. They didn’t need to know that it was not out of convenience, but rather a gesture of possession.
