She’d gotten used to the idea that they were safe, counting down the hours to reunification with both the girls and with her king-sized mattress back at home, and just as quickly as they’d dropped Martha in the raging river, that dream has slipped away.

When the helicopter finally crests the hill, and she’s sure they’re not having a collective hallucination borne from a parasite they all inherited from the hot springs, Leah clutches Fatin’s hand like a lifeline.
She doesn’t stop to think about how the pilot could have known to check for castaways in the middle of the island, or why the chopper is able to pick them out right away. Instead, with Fatin’s hand grounding her in reality, she’s thinking about home.
Or, Fatin just really needs Leah to know she was right about everything.
