Animal Shifter Au, (A good version/Oneshot)
So, I’ve seen a few bat shifter Maverick fanfic’s and I like how they show Mav suffering in the future but what if the shifter au took a different turn.
What if, instead of being tossed into the dark abyss of horrors that is the american foster system, a certain snake call-signed pilots dreams came true and he got to raise his best friends son as his own.
Instead of being horribly maimed and his shifter form suffering from a horribly debilitating injury, we get a happy little child growing up in a safe and loving family, never fighting with the ghost of a dead man for attention and recognition as his own person.
Just how different would this Maverick be, the one who was loved and raised by good people.

It's 1994. Ice returns to the squadron after months away at the Naval Postgraduate School and promptly discovers that six months of deployment, command changes, and far too little sleep have left Maverick in a thoroughly impossible mood. Misunderstandings ensue. So do consequences.
