Vanessa scoffs and rolls her eyes, “of course he does.” Her face turns serious when she adds, "I just want you to know that there are so many people out there who will love you if you let them. I know you think Luka is the only one who would ever put up with you but he’s not. I think the reason it seems like he's the only one who sticks around is because he's the only one you let in.”
Ivan just stares at her, having no idea how to respond to that. “Just think about it, will you?” she adds. Ivan nods and pans his gaze down to Lovro sitting on the porch, he wonders what it would look like if he let Lovro in, if he let him see all of him.

Summary
Ivan stays still for a few moments, basking in the peace of watching Lovro without Lovro knowing he is looking.
For a moment he finds himself feeling jealous of Lovro’s sickness, the inevitable healing of it. He watches Lovro wince every time he swallows and feels envious that he will get to experience the pain slowly fade away. All he has to do is take his medication for a few days and rest before he goes back to normal. He will get to go outside, and breathe in the air through his clear airway and appreciate it all the more now that he has healed.
But Ivan will never have that. He will wince while he swallows everyday for the rest of his life.

While Ivan is in the midst of a depressive episode, Lovro comes down with the flu. They take care of each other, despite being sick themselves.

Summary
That voice. So warm and so familiar. Deliriously easy to recognise after an entire day spent listening to it. Slowly, achingly, Ivan turns his head to find the source. Three students stand near the vending machine across the room, and one of them is – Lovro.
Lovro.
Lovro, with his blue hair half-hidden beneath the hood of his sweatshirt. Lovro, laughing softly with one hand wrapped around an energy drink can. Lovro, loitering shoulder-to-shoulder with two others – one tall and broad with blond hair, the other shorter and dark-haired and waving his hands around while he talks.
For a beat, Ivan’s brain simply refuses to process what he’s seeing. It just… doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t fit.
Because Lovro said university. Lovro said twenty-one. Lovro said –
Ivan is a soon-to-be divorced teacher trying to start over. Lovro is the student he can't seem to stay away from.
