Newt had heard the stories, knew them like the back of his hand: everybody has a soulmate in this world, one person made just for them, blah, blah, blah. Their initials were inscribed on everybody’s chest, just to the left of the sternum, directly over the heart. That he was fine with.
The problem for him, personally, lay within the other condition: that if you came within close proximity of your soulmate, but failed to meet them, you would have to relive the day until you succeeded. Newt was used to wanting Thomas by then, the relentlessness of it, the way it swept over his entire body like a wave. He thought that was why everything in his body seemed to have ramped up: his heartbeat, temperature. Didn’t really understand why it was happening until he was turning the car off and there was a sudden stab of hot pain in his arm, spreading like veins.
Newt pushed his sleeve up and stared.
Newt wrestles with the Scorch, the Flare, and his feelings for Thomas.
