Caitlyn drew in a quiet, startled breath as she lifted her eyes to the familiar willow tree looming above her, it's surreal purple petals swaying in their branches. It struck her that she was in the Kiramman grounds, the very place they had buried her mother. The breeze shifted the branches, sending a slow cascade of purple-violet petals twirling weightless and soft in front of her eyes, catching the suns glow as they lingered mid-air, carried by soft unseen currents around her, while some settled quietly as the air hummed with a quiet radiance.

“We have to go undercover as… high-schoolers?” Caitlyn asked, blinking. “Are you serious?”
Vi crossed her arms, leaning back in her seat. “Nice, that sounds like a hard job.”
“Oh it’s going to be sunshine and rainbows,” Ambessa said with a flat tone that couldn’t sound less excited, an extremely sarcastic smile on her face. “An absolute walk in the park. I’m practically sending you on vacation on this hunt to stop a new, dangerous drug from spreading out onto my streets.”
The only thing they have in common is that there’s nothing either of them wanted more than to put high school behind them and never look back. But now that’s the one place they have to work together, bust a drug ring without getting caught, and remember that this isn’t a chance for a do-over.

On the road, VI can’t stop looking at Caitlyn. Her thoughts are a roaring mix of affection, guilt, curiosity, hunger. When was the last time she felt like this? Has she ever?
What is confounding Vi the most is that Caitlyn still hasn’t asked for anything, nothing concrete. Nothing, anyway, that could give Vi any guidance on how to proceed.
What does one do, when they desire someone without any other kind of strings attached? Without the need to hide away, be quick not to get caught, be rough to not be seen as weak? Is she simply allowed to take and be taken? What if it breaks her? What if it breaks both of them?***
Caitlyn is out of options- the only chance she has of avenging her mother is by partnering with Vi, the sister of her mother's killer, convicted in her place ten years prior. Together, they set out through the country on a desperate search, with the Chembarons on their tail.
Caitlyn is struggling with her grief and her guilt, Vi has to learn how to live. The road will either save them, or swallow them whole.

“What can I give you to get you to not block with your face?” Caitlyn coaxed, exasperated beyond belief. “This match was supposed to make up for all the other times you’ve taken injury from my hand—”
“You mean, that blue and yellow fuck of a ball?”
“My hand all the same.” Caitlyn corrected, with her beautifully moisturized lips pulling down into a frown that Vi wishes she could take all away. “You’re hurt, because of me, and I’m not so sure how I can fix it if the ball just… chases you like it has a mind of its own.”
It sure feels that way— it’s making Vi believe that the ball has a personal vendetta.
But Vi doesn’t express that. Instead, she huffs— only knowing one decent answer. “Maybe we can get to know each other, perhaps?”

Or: Vi is just passing through the gym, but then she gets hit hard enough by a volleyball to make her pass out, and she wakes up to a beautiful stranger on top of her; fanning her like an angel.

Yin and Yang. Positive and Negative. Pitchers and Catchers. They are two independent entities with their own responsibilities and challenges on the field that thrive best when well balanced by their counterpart. Capable of melding two minds into one fluid functioning machine. They are undoubtedly the most vital connection on any field. Caitlyn and Vi are no exception to this rule. They are mostly teammates, occasionally lovers, and definitely aren’t girlfriends. And there’s absolutely no evidence otherwise. Because at the end of the day they’re both just playing their role and there’s no need to look any deeper than that as it pertains to this particular duo.

Collegiate Softball CaitVi, where they definitely aren’t dating, but they aren’t just teammates either. There are a number of incidents that may or may not disprove and/or prove such a claim.
