Summary
When Ilya Rozanov goes down on the ice, the Boston Bears are already moving to defend their captain. No one expects Shane Hollander, captain of the Montreal Voyageurs, to be the one who throws the first punch.
Or: the Boston Bears figure out Ilya and Shane’s relationship first—and decide that instead of letting their captain move to fucking Ottawa, they’ll just kidnap his boyfriend instead. Shane Hollander would make a better Bear anyway.

In late October, Ilya picks up some kind of freakish Canadian flu that dogs him into November.
It is the weirdest shit. He has to duck out of practice because his nose starts bleeding twice in one week and he wakes up in a hotel in Columbus with another one that leaves stains on the pillow. On the flight back to Ottawa, Hazy drops into the seat next to Ilya midflight and asks, "This isn't, like, a cocaine thing, right?"
Ilya laughs so hard it's probably a little rude.

Summary
Shane knows he’s just another person on Ilya Rozanov’s infamous roster. In the sea of data, he’s a laughable sliver, he’s noise. It’s a truth he repeats to himself like learning it will save him.
It doesn’t.
Because when Rozanov looks at him like that, like he’s never seen anything more remarkable in his entire life, it’s so easy to forget. His emotions are just a cocktail of neurotransmitters, a biochemical coup staged by a body that has absolutely no interest in self-preservation after years of chasing the things that hurt.
