The absolute worst part about being suddenly and inexplicably four inches tall, is how very small it made Laudna feel, but if Laudna were to speak that aloud, it would sound like a joke, and that would make her even smaller.
Laudna tries very hard to use her magic academically and is rewarded with being shrunk down to four inches tall for her scholarship. She proceeds to have a very bad evening about it.

”Can’t keep anything down,” she admits, though does not say that the last time she tried was over a week ago. “Bread, tea, water, doesn’t matter.”
“I didn’t mean food,” Laudna says, and Imogen wants her to stop talking, Imogen no longer wants to listen to her lovely, rolling voice. “I meant blood.”
