Thanatos looks away, down at the empty bottle in his hand, the indulgence still on the tip of his tongue, so fleeting. “Nectar today, fish tomorrow.”
Zagreus laughs. “What? What does that mean?”
“It means, you’re under Dionysus’s influence today. Promising me nectar. And tomorrow, it’ll be Poseidon. Promising me whatever he can provide.”
Zagreus leans back, squinting one eye, as if trying to keep him in focus. “Weird thing to say,” he says. “I’m only ever myself, Olympic boon or no.”

Summary
“Hey Than…nice of you to drop in.” The prince’s voice is soft, muffled, and wavering slightly in juxtaposition to his usual exuberant cadence. Like he is doing his best to keep it measured and steady...and failing. Instead of actively engaged in a fight with his father, Than finds Zagreus face-down in the snow, near the cliff-side just past the exit to the underworld.

Summary
They are already running out of time, as Thanatos can tell; Zagreus is visibly unwell now, collapsing with relief into the bed of grass.
“Do you ever die with your eyes closed?” Thanatos asks. “Mortals think it’s the gentlest way to go. Like sleeping.”
“You know I don’t sleep much.” Zagreus grins lopsidedly and then lets his mismatched eyes, akin to the Underworld’s gemstones, flutter shut. “But it can’t hurt to try, can it?”
