    Summary

Nie Mingjue enjoys, as he will later wistfully remember it, a picture-perfect childhood.

Born the first son and only child to a well-respected, powerful sect leader and his just as accomplished wife, he grows up in prosperity and takes to the family traditions from the moment he can walk. Even as a toddler he tries to mimic the disciples’ moves with sticks and plays at night hunting while chasing rabbits in the mountains with his friends.

Or: The trials and tribulations of Nie Mingjue: growing up, meeting and befriending Lan Xichen (and this turning into something more), his troubled little brother, losing his parents, and becoming sect leader too soon.

    Summary

Seeking answers, and a chance to undo his mistakes, to see both Nie Minjuge and Jin Guangyao again, Lan Xichen turns to the shelves holding Wei Wuxian’s notes, and the array that can give it to him.
    -
“Whatever it is, it’s changed you,” Nie Mingjue says. “Sometimes it feels like you’ve turned into a ghost possessing yourself.”

It is what Lan Xichen has become, even before using the array. He did not die with Jin Guangyao, physically. But he had still turned into a ghost of himself, the melancholy that had swallowed him and the haze of unreality he lost himself in, haunted by the past. Using the array, tearing his souls apart into whatever had made the journey, had simply completed the process, made him truly possess himself.

    -

Or; A Lan Xichen centric time travel fic where it’s hard to heal from the past while living in it.

“Are you doubting me now, da-ge? I’ll have you know I would be happy to spend my time this way.”

“You’re saying nonsense again.” Nie Mingjue shook his head with a smile. It wasn’t very usual to hear Lan Xichen talk like this, though it wasn’t unwelcome.

“Maybe you could spar with me someday. Teach me a thing or two.” Lan Xichen requested after he took another sip from the cup of tea in front of him.
