Summary
Early in Ted’s tenure as coach, Sam and Jamie end up as roommates during an away game. That night Sam discovers Jamie is suicidal after Jamie asks him to sit with him, feeling like he might kill himself if he’s left alone. Jamie thinks Sam will leave him be afterwards, but Sam can’t just let Jamie walk away knowing all this, it wouldn’t be right.
Sam’s attempt to look out for Jamie, even if Jamie thinks it’s not necessary, pushes him to become more confident and assertive, stepping up as a leader. Meanwhile, Jamie is pushed to be more open by Sam refusing to let him go on as if any of this is okay or normal. As their friendship develops, Jamie grapples with his childhood trauma, while Sam works through how he feels about becoming friends with someone who has bullied him in the past, as well as figuring out how to feel about the fact that Ted and Roy are imperfect people too, especially when it comes to how they approach Jamie.

Summary
The event itself was spectacular. Fucking fantastic. A once-in-a-lifetime sort of thing. Sex with Keeley was always good, it didn’t really matter what they were doing or when or why or if it was between good friends or in a relationship or anything. They had chemistry, she had imagination, he had a willingness, it always went well. Sex with Jamie was the complete unknown, and Roy didn’t have any specific expectations, though he really should have known how it would go. Jamie was generous, full of energy, playful. He smiled a lot. He didn’t have a single ounce of shame, never second-guessed himself, wasn’t self-conscious or shy. Roy thoroughly enjoyed both of them and himself.
He especially enjoyed Jamie.
Which, ultimately, was the problem.

Roy loads the stupid pink leopard thing into Keeley's car, carefully wrapping a stray hoodie around its head to keep its stupid little porcelain ears from getting chipped on its journey to her new life. He takes the plane tickets out of his jacket pocket and stares at them for a moment. Then he stomps back inside, plants his feet in the middle of the lobby, and bellows, "TARTT!"
Jamie's naked top half pops out of the doorway to the gym. "Yeah, Coach?"
Roy tucks the tickets back into his jacket and says, "Let's fucking go."
