    The muscles under the eyes crinkling when Gojo grinned.

    The slight lift in the cheeks.

    The fine lines that formed in the outer corners.

     

    The Duchenne marker.

     

    Shoko had taught him that one, slurring through the explanation with a half-empty bottle dangling from her hand. Apparently real smiles recruited the muscles around the eyes. Apparently most people faked them badly.

     

    Gojo didn’t.

    In retrospect, he probably should’ve been more concerned when Shoko abruptly leaned over halfway through the explanation and vomited so violently she nearly aspirated. He’d had to grab the back of her coat and hold her upright while she wheezed and laughed and cried at the same time.

    They hear noises.

    And it’s rustling of leaves and trees from their right side.
