The feeling came back. The emptiness, the loneliness. the tightness in her chest because she knew that, no matter how much she tried, she would never truly fit in. She was still a demon, the faint marks stayed on her still as proof and her whole past was there to scream at her.
“One of you…” a whisper that meant thousands of words, a sigh that weighed tons.
“Rumi,” Mira sighed, cupping Rumi’s cheek - red with shame and wine, the marks with a faint lilac that meant bad stuff -, noticing the glassy eyes, “Talk to us. You promised you wouldn't keep anything to yourself anymore.”
“You can tell us, baby,” Zoey’s soft voice felt like a balm on a healing wound.

And Zoey obeyed. She always set up her own kneeling spot because she knew how many pillows or blankets to use, depending on how deep in her mind she wanted to drift. She used folded blankets if it was only going to be for a short while, but she used pillows if it was going to be for a bit longer. But this time, she used both because she just wanted to drift and submit fully, and she didn’t want her knees to be bruised up from sitting on them.
Zoey’s favorite part wasn’t even the intimacy. It was the certainty, the feeling of purpose, unambiguous and absolute: be here, be still, be good. It was simple, predictable. Just what she needed in moments like this, moments where she didn’t want to be the one to make the choices, she wanted someone else to tell her what to do.
