   (Eugene felt his hope shatter when he watched Enid disappear into the smoke. He didn't know where she was, he didn't know if she was safe. He didn't know what to do, all of his friends were dead. Except for Pugsley, the very person he'd face off. It was odd how numb he felt before the performance, he didn't rebel once or snap a nasty comment at any of the aliens' faces. As he dressed himself, he thought to himself, how he didn't know whether there was a point to winning or not. But he tightened his tie and reaffirmed himself. He'd win.)
