“No.” Steve says, and he doesn’t even know why he’s saying it. It makes sense. It’s on his behalf, which is odd in itself. He never would’ve guessed Eddie Munson would be making such a passionate case to save his life. But he can’t let it happen, even if the reasons are stupid and irrational and petty. He’s the one who protects Dustin. So again, for good measure, he says, “No.”

Summary
“He’s coming home with me when my shift’s done.” Mrs. Hagan spoke up before the doctor could even finish. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw both Hopper and the Doctor look at the two of them in surprise. “You’re parents aren’t home, are they honey? Another work trip?”
Of course, she knew. She always knew. She’d been angry at his parents since he was ten and they started leaving him with a series of inattentive nannies. She’d taught him how to cook, do his laundry, and get stains out of the carpet when his parents started to leave him alone at fourteen. She’d been more of a mother to him than his own for years.
He’d missed her so much this last year.
Or, Steve is suffering from a concussion after season 2 and someone needs to watch him for a week. The Mom of his old friend Tommy Hagan, a nurse at Hawkins General, volunteers. The next week is one of the most awkward of Steve's life.

On the way back, Robin sat scrunched up in a ball with her feet on the car seat, drinking the last few sips of her shake and bobbing her head to the music coming out of Steve’s radio. “Do you think that old lady thought we were dating?” she asked suddenly, “She was looking at us, like, oh to be young and in love. ” She swooned, placing both hands on her heart.
“Probably,” Steve said, tapping his thumb on the steering wheel, “Who doesn’t?”
Max snorted, both in amusement and surprise. “People think that?”
