Summary
General Iroh, the Dragon of the West, Crown Prince of the Fire Nation, never lost his heir during the siege of Ba Sing Se. Lu Ten, at the age of 18, survives and wants to make a name for himself. He heads to the South Pole, commanding the Southern Raiders to occupy and colonize a small coastal village where he runs into a young waterbending girl, Katara.
As Zuko grows, he learns what it means to love a waterbending girl that is irretrievably tied to another.
As Katara grows, she learns what it means to stay true to your roots and to be loyal to those you meet along the way.
As Lu Ten grows, he struggles with protecting his legacy and his ascension to the throne.
But oddly, as he held her hand, through the haze of intoxication, he also felt grateful for this girl that had sacrificed everything for him. Just as he had sacrificed everything for her.
It was prosaic in the way of plays and poems.
He slipped the ring on her thumb. It was a man’s ring and it wouldn’t have fit anywhere else but there.

Summary
Katara felt all the hair on the back of her neck rise when he made eye contact with her. She knew those eyes no matter how much she tried to forget them.
In the past few days, he had found a way to sink to a new low in Katara's eyes. It was one thing for Zuko to create a fake life in a remote Earth Kingdom village, and it was completely another thing to become a common criminal. Katara didn't care what kind of explanation he would come up with.
She had people to heal, and Zuko's drunken, thieving antics would not get in her way. That was easy to say. Even though she wanted to leave him alone, she couldn't.

Really good political thriller, ending doesn’t quite resolve its threads satisfyingly and the Zutara of it all kind of runs out of gas before Iroh is murdered, but its other wise excellent.
