    Summary

Peter is fine, anyways. His boss might fire him soon, the Avengers might arrest him soon, the principal might expel him soon, but none of it has happened yet. And his dad—
“You didn’t get my coffee,” his dad says, halfway through his burrito. He has been in a state of low, simmering irritation all evening, and apparently this is how long it took for him to find a reason to blame Peter for it.
“You didn’t tell me to get coffee.”
    “Do you have eyes?”
“Yes,” Peter says. “I have eyes.”
“So you could have checked if we needed coffee without me telling you every little thing, Jesus Christ.”
    -
Peter just wants to make it to sixteen so he can escape this life and strike out on his own. He has a plan and nothing will ruin it.
Not even Tony Stark quite literally crashing into his life.

“What the fuck?” He repeats, his voice breaks. “You’ll fix a fucking dinner chair but not mom’s coffee mug?” He starts digging through the trash to find the other half, eyes prickling, throat aching.

“I’m sorry,” dad says from behind, sounding sheepish.

“No, you’re not, you never gave a shit about any of mom’s stuff.”

    “That’s not true.”

He finds the other half and puts them both on the kitchen counter. A few little chips are missing but you can easily glue this back together. “She wouldn’t have even married you if she knew—”

    Whack.

His Spider-sense doesn’t even have time to spike before dad smacks the back of his head, hard, knocking it against the fridge with a crack. A few fridge magnets clatter down. Peter grips the edge of the counter to keep himself upright. His head spins. He breathes through it until it clears.

When he looks round, dad has already left the kitchen. Like a lightning strike.

Yeah. He shouldn’t have said that. Him and his dad, they really deserve each other.

    Summary

“Your parents have been grooming you to take over the company, correct? You’ve been working closely alongside them, alongside their best scientists and technicians. I’m sure you’ve learned a fair deal. We could use that expertise at Stark Industries.”
“Essentially,” Parker says, “you want to pay me to reveal my parents’ company secrets.”
“Yes,” Tony says, cheerfully. “Thank you for catching on so quickly.”

Tony’s week just turned a lot more promising: Rich kid Peter Parker has apparently dropped out of college and provoked the ire of his parents. A delicious scandal for the tabloids. And an opportunity too good to waste, even if it means putting up with a snooty, preppy college kid as his new intern.

Peter sighs and furiously scrubs his face. “I told myself I didn’t want to be a coward anymore. But maybe I’m just, just some stupid stubborn teenager who is acting out because he couldn’t hack it at MIT. I haven’t been a very good son to them.”

He wishes he could remember some nice things about his parents. They must have shared some nice moments. It’s his fault for not remembering them.

“Your dad said he was going to break your fingers, dude,” MJ says. “Like, just casually muttering it under his breath as he checked under my bed. You’re not going home.”

It’s not a common occurrence to find people willing to side with him against his parents. His mother can play this game perfectly. From the outside, to any untrained eye, she knows how to make it look like Peter has overreacted; has gone completely off the rails, even. Thrown a teenage tantrum for attention while poor mom and dad are doing what they can to fix it. Frankly, Peter isn’t even sure that interpretation would be entirely wrong. He feels like he can’t trust his own judgement. “He just says stuff like that, he’s not going to actually do it. My mother wouldn’t stand for it. I’m positive she doesn’t even know what messages he has been sending me.”

“Yeah, your mother is a real saint, I’m sure she’d make sure you were perfectly safe and loved.”

    “My mother never—”

“Don’t start defending her, I might puke.”

“Yeah. Um.” He rubbed at his forehead, talking without thinking, “I uh. I don't know. I guess I was – I was scared? And I. I thought that the world should still have their heroes.” He twisted his fingers together in his lap, glaring down at them, “And that. Just because I was hurt, it didn’t mean I should deprive everyone of things that kept them safe.”

Pausing for a moment, the attorney didn’t write immediately, until eventually he noted that answer down and asked, “And what changed your mind?”

“I’ve been going to a rape therapy group,” Tony answered, “For months now. Anonymous. Someone there, they – changed my mind. I want to help them, but I realised, to help them I have to help myself in the first place. And I realised, that no matter what they can do or how powerful they are, if someone’s done something like this they should be punished.” He dug his nails into his palms, “And I don’t think the world deserves to have rapists as their superheroes.”

“He got to leave this world,” She was snarling by then, “He got to leave everything behind and he left me here with a bed wetting, pathetic little freak that I’m not even related to who’s good for nothing but a fuck.”

Peter doesn’t remember the feeling of falling away from his body, but he remembers waking up in a wet bed, in May’s wet bed, and he remembers May pushing him off the bed and snarling at him and he remembers the punching.

Peter feared he would never be happy again.

“You’re not as good as him,” May’s words were slurred and heavy, she sounded so far gone and Peter felt stuck like he was a mouse caught in a trap. “But at least I’m not alone anymore.” She kissed the inside of his thigh and Peter wanted to throw up and scream and cry and hit his head against a concrete wall all at the same time.

“I can’t deal with being alone anymore.” May’s words felt like ice in his veins, creeping and curling and coercing him into excusing the woman’s behaviors. He didn’t want May to be alone either.

Peter let his legs spread farther, his head tilted back at the feeling of May’s lips, wet and warm and poisonous on his skin. He felt himself falling and crumbling and spiraling away as the woman touched him, stroking and licking and biting and caressing.

    Summary

“Your prints were a match for a missing persons case from ten years ago. A little boy who was kidnapped.”

The officer pulls out a picture that she turns toward Peter. It’s a little boy around four years old, with curly brown hair. “That’s you,” she says.

    Peter shakes his head.

“Do you remember how you got to that park? Who left you there?”

“Lady, I don’t remember jack shit,” Peter says. “I was like four. No one remembers shit from when they were four.”

Pepper doesn’t seem as satisfied. “You’re fourteen,” she says. “What were you even doing with cocaine in the first place?”

Peter crosses his arms defensively. “I was getting high,” he says. “What else do you do with it?”

Tony turns to him then. “Look, whatever you’ve gotten yourself into… We’re going to help. Okay? I know… I know you’ve been alone for a long time. But we’ve found you. And we’re here now. And we’re going to help you. And whatever you were doing, you don’t have to do it anymore. The drugs, the alcohol—I’m assuming there was alcohol as well—that’s over now. You’ve got us now.”

    It’s an impassioned speech.

Peter wonders if he’d be making it if he knew Peter has been letting his foster father fuck him so that he can keep going to the fancy school Tony had just been so pleased to hear about. If he knew that Peter doesn’t do drugs because anyone is forcing him to, but because he likes them.
