Summary
There was a room, and a pallet inside it; a small torch burned low in a socket upon the wall. A man lay upon the cot, his face bruised and battered, his hands curled against his chest bloody, and Laurence did not know him.
Or, a little part of Blood of Tyrants goes differently.

[image: A boy, maybe fourteen, stands on the porch of the Fujiwara household in a brand new school uniform. Slung over one shoulder is an old but well-loved leather messenger bag. In his hand is a brightly wrapped bento. The boy, although smiling, looks nervous.]

Kitamoto thinks Natsume’s cat is probably a much better judge of character than Natsume is – the cat will take a vicious swipe at anyone who tries to hurt it, after all, while Natsume will close his eyes and forgive.

Summary
"Why? Can't you just…" Crunch - Asa takes a huge bite of the apple and sighs like it's the best thing she's ever had. She chews with her mouth closed, all polite.
Gabby stops staring - can't go cutting her thumb off. "'Cause the skin'll get stuck between your teeth, dummy."
Asa's halfway done with her apple by the time Gabby's cut up hers all fancy-like, the way she saw someone she can't remember - but can remember was important - do it once. They even used a tiny little fork for it, to keep their hands from getting sticky. Which is silly - juices are fine, you can lick 'em off. Not like blood.--
Gabby and Asa, and the contrast between nights they've shared together over these last few years. And apples, and video games, and blood. Covers events pre-canon in the manga and anime.
