His whole shtick was analysis, using his brain and whatnot, but in the heat of the moment any critical thinking skills just went right out the window. As it happened, so did he.

Summary
Grace's webbed hands press against the glass, his curious chitters surprising the young man standing next to the viewport he was observing from. He’s newer on the team, Grace jogs his memory for his name again.
The young man holds his hand to his chest, breathing a sigh of relief, “Oh hey, Grace. Come to see your new neighbor?”
He nods, chirping his burning question, “Who is it?”
“Dunno,” Chris, right, that’s his name– “It’s another mer.”
(Or, Rocky and Adrian are helped by a merman named Grace, and in turn they save him. Now happily living in the Erid Marine Rehabilitation & Research Center, Grace is surprised when another injured merman named Simon is brought to recover in a neighboring tank. Perhaps, these two lost souls may finally have a home, together.)

Caleb dreams of canoodling with or attacking (or sharing his friends and life with) Essek
Wistful apple cider Caleb and bundle-y Essek 🥰 The calm before the fuckery.
Essek admits that (maybe) Caleb could (possibly) be considered a friend. Caleb recalls breaking and being “fixed” twice, where IkyThot pretends that vamps killed his family
Essek is excited to talk to Caleb, and even when it only shows a little, Caleb notices the change and is like “what u buttering me up for? Not complaining or anything but…” and slips into a little flirtation.
Essek is delighted by Caleb’s annotations in a wizard publication and wants to snag more of his copies… Also it mentioned a publication he wrote a while ago so excited for THAT to be revealed eventually. Caleb’s memory is sure to retain that little mention…
Essek is NOT panicking in a bathtub because he has a very nice night, dammit. He’s also so so curious and cannot Suggest C tells him his backstory.

E and C set to meet up on Thursday (IITY?😉) for blood, Essek dropped of contract in the mail and will go over Caleb’s revisions when they meet, both are hanging on by a thread my guy. Essek like I’m so in control of my life and fine and Caleb’s pretending like his life isn’t a series of panicked Frumpkin snuggles.
Essek has left after being saved by Caleb, and both of them are struggling against panic attacks in the following days.

Every screen in the room blazed with the same breaking news feed. An alien voice had just asked for him by name on live television.
“Mr. Grace?” little Jamal whispered from the front row, eyes huge behind his glasses. “Is that really you they’re talking about? Like, you you?”
Ryland’s mouth opened, but nothing came out. His heart slammed against his ribs like it wanted to escape and hide under the desk with the class hamster. He was just Mr. Grace. The guy who drew cartoon planets on the board, who stayed late helping kids glue together messy dioramas of the solar system, who once spent an entire lunch period comforting a sobbing girl because her goldfish had “gone to the great fishbowl in the sky.” He graded spelling tests on vocabulary words like photosynthesis and asteroid. Aliens did not know his name. Aliens did not ask for science teachers.
The marker slipped from his fingers and clattered to the floor.

Ilyukhina and Yao come on up and find Grace in his underwear and Rocky sleeping, freak Grace out and fail to convince him to come down (which they don’t try that hard at anyway)
