    Two-Bit blinked hard, once then twice, and Darry was still there, hadn’t faded away like a ghost. He was still at Buck Merril’s party, stalking into the living room in his blue jeans and work boots, a large wad of paper held tightly in a white-knuckled hand. Two-Bit bounded over to greet him, throwing an arm around his shoulder. If Darry had decided to finally start showing up for parties again, Two-Bit would do all he could to make sure he felt welcome, that he cut loose and enjoyed himself.

    Steve Randle isn't stupid. After losing two of his closest friends, he realized his faults and cleaned up his act, and he prioritized being good to the people he has left. In the near four years from the single worst week of his life, he's started treating Ponyboy Curtis like a real close friend.

    The life of a greaser is far from easy, though, and Ponyboy proves himself to be no different than the rest of them. Steve is just lucky enough to be the one pulling him through each of his troubles.

    (or: the 5 times Steve Randle saved Ponyboy Curtis, and the 1 time the kid returned the favor, because i miss 5+1 things!)
