----Maysilee dies in the arena and she breaks two souls beyond repair. Haymitch and Merrilee try existing in a world, together, that had moved on from an event that shattered both their lives.
They aren't very skilled or faithful about it, but they still try.

However, as a token of the Capitol’s generosity and kindness, two victors may be crowned, one male and one female, if they originate from the same district.”
When Haymitch and Maysilee are crowned the victors of the second quater quell they return home to find their families murdered. Together they must navigate their grief and trauma, and quickly find that it's easier to greive together than to grieve alone.
