Summary
Learning German was supposed to be a simple chore by NERV, just another test to study for. But for Shinji Ikari, it becomes something else entirely.
After a humiliating exchange with Asuka, he begins to wish that he could be braver, louder, more like her. Shinji falls into frustration, daydreaming about the things he could have said, but didn't. With Asuka out and Misato busy though, Shinji finds himself alone. After a stray impulse to clean Asuka's room, Shinji finds a pair of bright red interface clips, and a sudden, breathless urge to see himself differently.

Join Shinji on her journey to become herself as she deals with bullies at school, supportive friends who kinda don’t get it but are trying their best, thrift store clothes shopping, a father who’s hoping to avoid the whole “gender” thing until it all blows over, the giant cyborg she has to pilot, the giant monsters that want to destroy humankind, the cabal of creepy old men that want to destroy humankind, and a strange, fey boy who probably wants to destroy humankind.
Also, she might be turning into a conduit between the mortal and divine. Whatever that means.
