The words didn't sound romantic. They were slurred, dragged out from the back of Enid's throat, muffled by the wood pressing against her jaw.
"I'd make a good wife, Wends. I would. I'm really good at loving you."

Wednesday says it like a confession. Like an apology. Like the closest thing to yes she'll ever allow herself to give.
Enid is drunk at the back of an empty dive bar, asking for the one thing Wednesday is too terrified to give her. Because the scars on Enid's face are a reminder of what loving an Addams costs and Wednesday would rather break both their hearts than be the reason Enid gets hurt again.

Wednesday is delighted. Enid is questioning her sanity. And neither of them is particularly good at pretending this isn't a date.
After all, nothing says romance quite like preserved body parts, mutual pining, and two idiots who would rather examine a nineteenth-century amputation saw than admit they're in love.

There’s just one problem.

And when Enid finally wakes, smiles at her like nothing ever happened, and whispers, “Hey, babe,” Wednesday realizes something is very wrong.
