The lash of the whip came down into the air right next to his head, making the boy flinch and cry out in fear. He desperately pulled at his hands, the rough rope grinding against his skin painfully. He could hear snickers and laughter coming from all around him and tears burned in his eyes, threatening to fall. No. He wouldn’t cry. He refused to cry and give them the satisfaction of seeing him break.

Summary
Bucky has been de-aged and reprogrammed, trying to reintegrate himself into modern society. Once he starts figuring himself out, a runaway omega runs into him (literally) and Bucky doesn't have it in him to let this omega go when he knows he can help someone escape abuse. It may have taken Bucky over 70 years to get away from his abusers but he's not going to let another person suffer longer than they need to.
(This is 100% slow burn, I promise they get together eventually. Chapters are short but story is long, will try to post daily or every other day)

The past doesn’t leave much room for sentimentality, but if it did, Bucky would’ve been better off raising a middle finger to Hydra. They didn’t just piece him back together after they found him—no. They scooped him out of the discarded trash that was post-army cannon fodder, carved out the good bits, and filled the rest with something Bucky struggled to recognize in the mirror for far too long. Gutted him and remade him in their image, metal arm and all. And now, sure, he’s ‘free’ to make his own choices, but—
He still kills.
There’s something about the way he moves that pulls on Bucky, no matter how much he tries to shrug it off. Not graceful—effortless; makes everyone else look clumsy, Bucky probably included.

Peter's birthday is supposed to be a day of celebration with the team, but the bad guys don't get the memo. It looks like he's going to be spending his twenty-first alone, counting down the minutes until he gets his soulmark- the first words his soulmate ever said or will say to him. But when he finds that Bucky is still hanging around the compound, it looks like his lackluster day might end up being special after all.

Summary
Cheeks still filled with food, the boy uses his free hand and presses his index finger to his chest. Then, looking just a bit nervous, he reaches the same finger up to his ear before slowly dragging it in an arc to the corner of his mouth.
Bucky doesn’t know why he understands that. He never needed sign language for Steve, not really. Not with one whole working ear for him to hear in. Bucky wouldn’t have known anything but the basics, at most. Shouldn’t remember any of it.
Maybe he doesn’t. Maybe he can just recognize what the boy is getting at, why he’s not saying what he needs to say. Either way, he understands.
Deaf.
Bucky thinks it’s probably selfish to be relieved at someone else’s disability.
In which Peter is deaf, Bucky is mute, and they find what it means to fall in love.
