Summary
Optimus sacrifices himself to extinguish the spark of Unicron, draining the Matrix in the process. Overwhelmed by the return of Orion, Megatron can't bring himself to lie—he tells Orion the truth, about the war, about the matrix, about him becoming a Prime and every horrible thing Megatron has ever done. Orion, of course, can't blame him for any of it. The events of TFP proceed a little (lot) differently, after that.

With the Matrix in the Well of Allsparks, Orion Pax -archivist and doting partner of Megatronus of Kaon - wakes up after thousands of years with energon on his servos and the love of his life fading away in front of him.

For a brief moment, as he opens his optics and sees the tunnel enclosing him, Optimus thinks he can walk through walls. The foolishness leaves, but the discorporeal feeling stays. It stays for a long, long time.
Optimus wakes miles under Cybertron's surface in a new-old body and struggles with the idea that he survived. Bumblebee sees something by the energon depot, and suddenly the idea of ghosts doesn't seem so impossible anymore.
