Summary
Zenin Mai was supposed to die a nameless death at seventeen. Instead, she lives to carry the consequences of her sister's survival. Kamo Noritoshi, cast out by the clan that has always told him what to be, is drifting, lost in a world which no longer has a place marked out for him. She wants something to give in to. He wants something to fix. It is a natural collision.
The thing that no one tells you about healing, though: it throws a wrench in things. And neither Mai nor Noritoshi is ready to consider the possibility that the arrangement they fell into accidentally might have been more right than either of them realized.

“All we do is erase, Mai." Maki exhales. The origin of curses: hatred, regret, fear. If all of that disappears, what's a person left with? What else is there? "We can save the people that are living, but most of the time we can't even do that. We should just—focus on ourselves. I can save you, and you can save me, and that's the most I'm sure of anything in this world."
"That's not what you think." Mai sounds so certain of it that Maki can't help but open her eyes and stare at Mai's matching ones in the darkness and wonder, What do you see when you look at me?
Instead, she says, "Well, you don't have any proof."
Contrary to popular belief, Maki has always been the one chasing after Mai.
