Their looks of disappointment.
That would hurt the worst, even if he understood it. And he would. He would understand their disappointment, because he was disappointed with himself. But he couldn’t see it on their faces. Not now. Not yet. Not when he felt so vulnerable, so raw, like an open wound.

“I— I’m sorry I woke you. I— Fuck. I had a nightmare,” Buck rubbed his eyes with his hands. “Is this real? Are you real? Am I dreaming still?” Buck whispered, low enough that he hoped Eddie didn’t hear.
“Hey. Come here,” Eddie said, his arms opened up, giving Buck a space to fall. So he did. Right into Eddie’s arms. Where he felt safety. Warmth.
“Eddie,” Buck sobbed out, burying his head into Eddie’s chest.
