Granted, Kaveh missed him.
He missed the unnecessary commentary, the peaceful silence they shared while doing their own things, simply the comfort of Alhaitham’s presence in their shared space. He missed Alhaitham’s touch—something he had been starved of ever since this research endeavor began.
But he would’ve been fine with it. Really.
Kaveh could have accepted the change, happy even, to see Alhaitham break from his usual status quo every now and then.
Except… something felt off.
Every time Alhaitham returned home and greeted him with their sweet ‘welcome back’ kiss, Kaveh caught a scent that shouldn’t have been there—a lingering sweetness, subtle but unmistakable. Sumeru roses.

It's fine. He’s completely chill about this. He’s completely calm and collected about the fact that Alhaitham bought a collar for some other omega. A collar of the highest grade, he can tell—the leather is supple and soft, with a removable ring, and Kaveh knows, from the smaller box stuffed into the bag, that it’s supposed to display a stunning little ruby the size of his thumb. Understated yet entirely screaming of wealth and good craftsmanship.
He's not bitter.
He’s not.
Which means that when he gets home and finds Alhaitham calmly lounging on the divan like he isn’t having any thoughts of being with another omega, Kaveh stomps up to him and says, “Who. The fuck. Is it.”

Alhaitham’s breath hitched in his throat, and although he had never blushed in his life, a brazen heat took over his cheeks. “I’m sorry,” he repeated.
“Don’t worry, you can make it up to me,” Kaveh muttered, trailing a finger against Alhaitham’s thigh. His erection visibly twitched and he held back a gasp at the unexpected touch.
“You… want me to?”
Kaveh laughed, groping Alhaitham’s chest firmly. “So… you get off from me yelling at you?”
