She exhaled deeply before folding her knees and tucking her feet under her thighs. “Well,” she swallowed. “I suppose I tell him the story of a friendship. And how it started before a war. Of his father’s bravery, and how our enemies cursed him and made him sick. I tell him the story of how hard he fought to live his truncated life with unbridled humor and joy. How he gave his love openly and freely, in spite of his horrible childhood. How his best friend loved him so much he did the unthinkable. How he not only gave me his friendship and love, but gave me a son, who is just as wonderful as he was.”

Summary
