The angel pauses, caught off guard, before managing a sputtering response. “What? No. Of course not.” It insists, looking a little flustered.
Simon stares at it for a moment before he realizes. “Oh. Sorry.” He says. He’s not supposed to know that, it seems. That’s fine. He can keep a secret.

The Eye Knows and Sees all, but it cannot understand. That’s what the Archivist is for, to experience, understand, and archive terrible knowledge and fear, and filter that back to the Eye. If Jonah Magnus is the Pupil of the Eye, then Jonathan Sims is the brain that processes what the Eye and Pupil see, for the Beholding does not possess the neural pathways required to feel, let alone understand, fear. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on who you ask) that is about to change.
What happens when a knowledge-seeking entity that cannot think is directly linked to a (lonely, stubborn, morally strict, self-deprecating) human who thinks plenty enough for the both of them?

Sasuke takes another step forward.
“Stop, Uchiha-san,” the Cat ANBU reiterates, now stepping fully between him and his newly found soulmate, and breaking their eye contact. “No further.”
“But why?” Sasuke bites off.
“Why not?” Cat returns. “What business does the Uchiha heir have with Konoha’s jinchuriki?”
Jinchuriki? Sasuke fights to make no reaction. But that can’t be right. Jinchuriki aren’t supposed to have soulmates.
“Reinforcements should arrive tomorrow,” his soulmate, a jinchuriki supposedly, tells him almost apologetically. “Good luck, Uchiha-san.” His soulmate leans around the ANBU, just enough to reestablish eye contact, and before Sasuke can even register how very blue his eyes are, the entire squad is gone. He and Konohamaru are alone in the clearing.
