    There's no such thing as a break, not even after the events of Kamino Ward. In order to qualify for the Provisional License Exam, Izuku has to pass a pre-test. On top of training for that, there are new hearing aids he has to get used to, new gear, a reformed villain living in his house, and his classmate beginning to make up for the past too many years too late.

    Needless to say, it's a lot.

    “Not that bad? Not that bad?! There is a group of villains in this forest whose main purpose is getting their hands on you and you’re trying to tell me it’s not that bad?!” Aizawa demands, whirling around to face Izuku. “I don’t think you understand just how bad it actually is, Izuku!”

    Izuku blinks and stares at Aizawa with wide eyes. He lets go of Kouta and Shouto’s hands, hugging Aizawa tightly for a few seconds. “I know. I know it’s bad. But if they’re after me, then that means we can plan around it. We know what they’re after and we can try to use that knowledge to our advantage,” he says quietly, pulling away to look up at his teacher.

    Silence stretches between them for a long moment before Aizawa sighs. “Inko is going to kill me,” he mutters, rubbing his eyes tiredly before nodding. “I’m assuming you have something in mind.”

    “I don’t see what you’re waiting for, then,” Rei tells him, smiling reassuringly. “You should ask him out.”
    Shouto sighs and pulls his hand away, running it through his hair. “What if he says no? Or he doesn’t feel the same? What if I do actually mess up our friendship?” he asks.
    Rei studies him for a long moment and shakes her head. “Life’s too short for indecision, Shouto. One day you might be faced with the possibility of never knowing what could have been, and that will eat at you for as long as you live. If you like Izuku, don’t let your chance slip away. You’ll always wonder how things could have gone if you do,” she explains.

    “Do you want to be a hero?”
    Izuku blinks. Where did that question come from? It was so out of the blue that Izuku just feels confused now. “I can't,” he finally manages to say.
    “Why not?”
    Is Eraserhead stupid? Well, Izuku won’t actually ask him, but he’s tempted. It’s perfectly obvious why he can’t be a hero. “I’m deaf,” he points out.
    “So is Present Mic.”
    “I’m quirkless.”
    “And?”
    “What do you mean and? And nothing. Quirkless heroes don’t exist. Especially not deaf quirkless heroes,” Izuku says. He’s not sure why Aizawa isn’t understanding this.
    Aizawa just sighs, shaking his head. Izuku thinks there must be some big thing he’s just not seeing for the underground hero to be reacting like this. “So be the first, problem child,” Aizawa finally says.

    (AKA: Bakugou's bullying goes a bit too far when Izuku is ten, so they move. He meets Hatsume, gets trained by Aizawa and Present Mic, and sets off to become the first ever quirkless hero)

    Izuku Midoriya never got the chance to save Bakugo from the sludge villain and impress All Might. With his dream crushed, Izuku becomes bitter and angry. It also doesn't help that he faces discrimination at every turn.
    All he ever wanted was to be appreciated, so when the villains are the ones to recognize his talents rather than the heroes, well, Izuku just can't resist. He might as well help those who actually want him around.
    Mistakes were made, and now society must face a villain of their own making: Mastermind.
