It starts as a joke. Or it’s a joke for the other drivers, at least.
Alex is the first to say it out loud, during the driver’s parade of all places. Coming up next to Oscar, clapping him on the back.
“So you’ve finally slept with Lando!” Alex says, loud but apparently not loud enough to attract the attention of Esteban and Lance talking next to them.
Oscar just groans. He knows that whatever he’s going to answer will only make it worse, so he just shrugs.
“Alex, stop teasing the poor lad!” George intervenes.

Summary
Oscar closes his eyes for a second, allowing the wind and chill in the air to raise goosebumps on his arms. When Oscar reaches the gate to the pasture, he glances up for a second. Lando has nearly a half bale of hay balanced in his open palm and against his shoulder. His bicep is straining, but he otherwise does not seem phased. Oscar’s fingers fumble with the chain of the gate.
(Alternatively: Oscar and Lando work on a ranch. Oscar is used to keeping his head down and his emotions in check. But when Lando arrives, all easy smiles and restless energy, Oscar finds himself thrown off balance.)

Summary
On the life of his whole career, Lando would swear he doesn’t mean for it to become a routine, the café.
Only, on Monday, Lewis stops technique to compliment Max’s extensions during centre adage – Max’s – and then directs his stupid, stuck-up, closed-lipped grin at Lando when he fucks up the timing of the same combination during his group’s rotation at it. And Lando can’t sit around the lobby avoiding everybody’s eyes after, feels like he’ll suffocate if he does, so he wraps his scarf around his neck another time and trudges the same four doors down, shoulders through the same door.
“Morning!” Oscar calls from behind the counter.
(Alternatively: Lando is a ballet dancer in timeout. Oscar works in a coffee shop. This is a Hallmark Christmas movie.)
