Summary
How does a slave from the stables end up being shipped off to a neighboring country as a gift to warm the bed of the crown prince? Well, Hua Cheng wasn't actually in the room at the time but, judging by everything he's put together and what Yin Yu has told him, it goes something like this.
1 The King of Yong’an wants to conquer Xianle.
2 The King doesn't want Xianle to know that yet so that he can take them by surprise.
3 To bring this about the King wants a spy deep enough in Xianle’s royal court that they can learn the royal family’s most intimate and military secrets, and who could be better positioned to do that than a concubine?
So 4 the King of Yong’an tells his inner counsel that the first step in his invasion plan is to give the crown prince a concubine.
Or Hua Cheng is given to the crown prince of Xianle as a concubine with the job of seducing him in order to spy on him for the neighboring kingdom of Yong'an, but when real feelings get involved things get ...complicated

Lan Wangji can do nothing but stare at the man outside his window. “Wei Ying?”
“Hey, you remembered!” Wei Ying seems to take that as an invitation because he swings himself through the window. “This is a nice house,” he says as he strides across the room and drops onto the seat beside Lan Wangji. “The whole place is really beautiful. I mean, I’d heard Cloud Recesses was lovely, but the rumors don’t do it justice.”
“How?” Lan Wangji manages to ask, but his mind goes blank after that single word. There are other words he would like to say. Why is one. Hello is another. What is happening right now would be nice, but he’s too stunned for full sentences.
Or Lan Wangji falls in love with a cute (possibly poor?) guy named Wei Ying, but suddenly the notorious Yiling Laozu (mysterious, possibly hot under his mask?) wants to marry him. Now Lan Wangji is being wooed by two men, but he's being so brave about it.

This gives Lan Zhan pause. He glances over his left shoulder at Wei Ying. "Why would you want to do that?"
"Because it's fun!" Wei Ying cries. "Oh, if only we had a couple of other people here so we could have a chicken fight. But anyway, you've got two shoulders—and they're big and broad, and it's really rude for you to not let me have this one tiny little thing!"
"Alright, fine."
Lan Zhan bends his knees so that only the tops of his shoulders are above the water. Wei Ying wastes no time climbing aboard, swinging a leg around Lan Zhan's neck to reach the other side and driving Lan Zhan out of his fucking mind because Wei Ying's ass is on his shoulders. Although, admittedly, of all the fantasies Lan Zhan has had of touching Wei Ying's ass, it had never played out quite like this.

Fei Du's silence is hard to read at the best of times, and now, Luo Wenzhou isn't sure about the best approach to take. So eventually, instead of all the things bursting from his heart, he just says, "I made food. It's probably still warm. You need to eat."
At this, Fei Du looks at Luo Wenzhou properly, finally. There is confusion and a startled stillness, like he doesn't know why Luo Wenzhou is there, or why he would want him to eat. Like he’s waiting for Luo Wenzhou to give some other reaction.
"Come on, can you sit up on your own?" Luo Wenzhou says softly. Since he's thinking it anyway, he also adds, more bluntly, "And if you can't, I'm taking you to the hospital." The threat seems to work. Fei Du moves slowly but allows himself to be tugged until he's sitting upright on the couch.

Wei Ying cackled. “Jiang Cheng! You don’t have to lie to me about imaginary guests.”
“You-!”
Jiang Cheng advanced on the laughing Wei Ying, but Lan Zhan stood in his path, blocking him. Jiang Cheng glared up at him, then sighed loudly.
“Fine. You can stay here for a bit, but no funny business.”

There is a leak in Wangxian's new apartment, so they stay with Jiang Cheng. However, they have only recently confessed their feelings and find it a bit difficult to keep their hands off of each other...

“Your Highness!” There is horror in the cry but Xie Lian barely has time or wit enough to register the sound of it before the band gives way completely and he's tumbling to the floor.
There’s the sound of racing feet and an instant later arms wrap around him, pulling him into a tight embrace, the body of the one embracing him shaking with abject terror. For a few moments Xie Lian just hangs limply in the embrace too shocked, first by the band’s release and second by the arms suddenly around him to react. His mind is an empty unintelligible jumble and his body has so longed for comfort that it takes him several moments to realize that this is even real, that the arms encircling him aren’t merely a delusion of his rapidly weakening mind.
Feng Xin he thinks vaguely. Feng Xin came back.
…But no. This isn't Feng Xin.

The body.
The body which twitches again as the sword is withdrawn and lets out a lingering whimper of pain.
