Before Rocky is ready, Grace points the cylinder at him. “How do you say Grace in your language?” it asks.
Well, you don’t. You don’t say Grace in any language on Erid. Eridian language simply does not have the sounds to say Grace. Without knowing what Grace represents in this alien language other than a squishy sack of liquid and organs, Rocky cannot say Grace in Eridian, just like Grace cannot say Rocky’s Eridian name and just gave him a different one. Did Grace want him to come up with a name for it? Just like that?
That's a lot of pressure. Too much pressure! Rocky can't help but to blurt the first thing that comes to mind.

Summary
Rocky trills, awed. "You respond."
It's a statement, not a question, but I can hear the notes of confusion woven into his tone. "Y-yeah," I say. It's a concentrated effort to string words into sentences, but I feel compelled to try for Rocky. "'Course I do. Why…wouldn't I?"
"Did not expect. Erid animals no respond to frequency, only react."
I feel my lips pull themselves into a lazy smile. "Guess 'm just…special."
Rocky makes a few thoughtful clicks, and I feel them in my teeth. "Hmm. Have other theory," he hums. "You intelligent life, like Eridian. You larger than Eridian, but soft and leaky. Have similar thinking capabilities, but no carapace. Simple result; human cannot protect brain from Eridian predation tactics."
I nod minutely. "Good theory." After a few seconds, his words actually seem to sink in for me. "Wait. Predation?"
Rocky demonstrates a unique ability of his to Grace. It doesn't quite go as expected, for either of them.

Summary
For the team, the consciousness transfer takes hours. For Rocky, however, it happens in an instant. One moment, he was in his hard carapace listening to the hustle and bustle of the lab around him. The next, he is in supple flesh with a myriad of new senses, each and every one of them overwhelming his brain.
Oh. He wasn't briefed on this. No one ever warned him of the sheer overstimulation that would come with a new body. In the span of one brief, terrifying second, Rocky was introduced to worlds he couldn't even fathom existing—bursts of sensation assaulting his mind.
Or: Rocky and Adrian test their human avatars for the first time, and deal with the ups and downs of having new bodies.
