Summary
“Christopher,” he said, sitting on the edge of his son’s bed. “You can’t keep calling Ana Karen.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s not her name.”
Christopher shrugged. “People call Buck Buck.”
“That’s different.”
“His name is Evan.”Eddie opened his mouth. Closed it.
Christopher looked smug.“That is different,” Eddie repeated, with less confidence.
“Why?”
“Because Buck likes being called Buck.”
“I like calling Ana Karen.”Eddie stared at him.
Christopher stared back. There were other moments when he realized that his independent, sharp, stubborn son had inherited his ability to dig in and Shannon’s ability to quickly volley any point right back into his face. And somehow — in way that should feel strange but simply doesn’t — he’d also inherited Buck’s ability to win any argument with nothing but a smile.

Summary
Buck, who ran into burning buildings, who had pulled people from wreckage with his bare hands, who was physically the largest and in many ways the bravest person Eddie had ever known — flinched like he'd been struck each time the storm made any noise.
Eddie felt it move through him like a current.
He understood, in that moment, with the clarity that comes when several things you've half-known suddenly arrange themselves into a complete picture. The times Buck had cancelled plans when storms were in the forecast. The way he suddenly got ‘sick’ at work in the middle of his shift and had to go home early the day all those quick moving squalls came through LA. The way he turned down Christopher’s invite to come over and dance in the rain like in the movie. That last point alone should have been a big red flag for Eddie…. Buck refusing an opportunity to make a memory with Chris?!

Buck has spent a year pretending the lightning didn't leave a mark. Eddie discovers otherwise. -

Summary
Come·up·pance
noun
: A punishment or fate that someone deserves
: A deserved rebuke or penaltyI hate the Diaz parents so much. I want them (especially Helena) to hurt! I I want them to get their due. I believe neither the Buckley nor Diaz parents deserve any sort of redemption arc. And if they are given one, it should be after a LOT of genuine groveling.
I want to luxuriate in paragraph after paragraph of their pain. I need whole chapters…or even better an entire story…where they drown in isolation, discomfort, and the repercussions of their abuse and treatment of Eddie and Chris.
This is that. Enjoy their Comeuppance.
