He also picks up an elderly companion who knits him jumpers, encounters several familiar faces (but I've opted to not tag them to avoid giving away surprises), has lots of adventures, and finally learns what the TARDIS has been keeping from him since the very beginning.
This story is from the Doctor's point of view so it's a bit muddled and stream-of-consciousness at times; consider that a feature, not a bug.
