    Summary

What I wanted to write was a quick one-shot that explored the idea of Harry being the biological son of Voldemort, only Voldemort doesn't know he has a son and is also as evil as ever. Meanwhile, Harry is just a charismatic kid with a snake and ridiculously powerful magic.

It turned into a series rewrite.

    Here's book one, I guess.

Features Harry Potter trying to keep his friends from doing crimes, a tired Remus Lupin spontaneously adopting a traumatized child with absurd magical capabilities, Severus Snape doing the bare minimum which is still somehow more than what Dumbledore is capable of, and Harry's friends' growing exasperation with Harry's terrible decision-making skills.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Left off on chapter 13. General ship vibe so far is
Harry: hey Tom I know your life is pretty rough would a sugar daddy help (it’s me, I will be your daddy)?
    Tom: I 🙂 will 🙂 kill 🙂 you 🙂

Unusual for what I’ve seen of the genre: Tom is relatively far along in his schooling to still be violently bullied by Malfoy et al. Absolutely NOT the prince of Slytherin

    Summary

In a world where your soulmate’s name is written upon your left wrist, Tom Marvolo Riddle’s upbringing is very different. He chooses another path to immortality and greatness and embarks upon it, alone.

Then, he meets a boy named Harry Potter and his life changes, gradually at first, then seemingly all at once.

Tom Senior and Merope are soulmates, though he’s still repulsed by her and she still kidnaps and rapes him. It does give him a tiny bit of validity to explain why he would run off and come back without having to try to explain magic and come across looking like a lunatic, which gives him the tiniest bit of leeway to indulge his sense of duty to go and pick up Tom Jr when he’s still an infant (and possibly because the soulmate mark let him know when she died/that he could risk looking for his son without getting trapped again). He marries a neurodivergent OC who’s a delight.

    Summary

“Ah, go boil yer heads, both of yeh!” Hagrid suddenly yelled, and both Dursleys fell quiet and skittered back against the wall in fear. Hagrid turned to Effie then, face softening somewhat as he took her in. “Look at me, Effie.” She lifted her eyes to his only somewhat reluctantly. “Listen, right? What they aren’t tellin’ yeh—it’s not right, it’s not.”

Effie nodded when it became clear Hagrid wasn’t going to continue without a response from her first.

Hagrid took a deep breath, looked her right in the eyes, and said, “Effie—yer a witch.”

A moment passed, and then two. The only sound was the crackle of the fire.

    She pinched her elbow.

Hagrid stayed where he was, eyes still full of kindness, revelation hanging in the air between them.

    She wasn’t dreaming, was she?

    Summary

    There was another student here.

Tom recognized him vaguely—while transfer students were not necessarily uncommon due to the war, they were rare enough to at least make an impression. This particular transfer student was in his year, sorted into Ravenclaw after an impressively long hat stall. He looked like he might be descended from the Potter line, but he did not share the surname so his lineage was of no particular interest to Tom. Nothing about him was of particular interest to Tom, in fact, and yet here he stood, holding the book that Tom had come here to find.

It would be a good time to turn away. The Restricted Section was restricted for a reason—only books documenting extremely dangerous or extremely advanced magic were stored here.

Tom’s feet, however, suddenly felt as if they were made of lead. It wasn’t magic keeping him tied down, but something far more mysterious like curiosity or even fate. In any case, the delay was all it took for the Ravenclaw to lift his chin and meet Tom’s eyes.

This Ravenclaw, Tom realized, had eyes as blindingly green as the Killing Curse.

    Bookmarker's Notes

“I didn’t invite you here out of pity!” Harry suddenly exploded, throwing his hands up in the air. “I’m not trying to keep you here out of pity either! Look at who you’re talking to, Tom! Do you see my parents here? Do you see anyone that gives any kind of damn about me anywhere here? Other than the house elves, but these house elves love me out of obligation.”

“What do you want from me?” Tom asked, equally as frustrated. “I am not your friend!”

“Don’t you think I know that?” Harry asked. “Whose wand is pointed at me, Tom?”

Tom slowly lowered his wand, tension bleeding out of him as he did, because this was something he understood. Not affection, or fondness, or anything positive, really. This was just Harry’s loneliness, and maybe Tom’s too. In front of him was just a boy, who didn’t want to spend a summer with only house elves for company, and across from that boy was one that didn’t want to spend a summer with only frightened Muggle orphans for company, and between them were all those lonely expanses of white that made up this Manor’s landscape.
