“Okay,” Ryland sighed after he finished his cereal. “I’ll visit him today.”
“And bring me with?” Rocky exclaimed excitedly.
“If you promise to be good,” Ryland said, using the tone he would on a misbehaving cat, “you can come with to the café.”
“Yesss!” Rocky pumped his fist through the air, grinning. Ryland rolled his eyes fondly. “Don’t worry, Grace, I’ll get his number for you.”
“The hell you will,” Ryland sneered in response. “You’ll probably directly tell him that I want it for romantic and/or sexual purposes.”
“You talk like a book,” Rocky groaned, neither confirming nor denying Ryland’s statement.

Ryland has been visiting Simon for a while now, and let's be honest: it's perfect. He loves it. They both love it, as far as Ryland can tell. There's no one he'd rather be spending an excessive amount of time with (though he would never tell Rocky that). Despite Rocky's strange insistence that the tension between them is romantic, Simon's walls that Ryland is struggling to bring down, and Ryland's own anxiety and trauma beginning to catch up with him, life couldn't be better.

Summary
The apartment complex mostly housed dock workers, according to the landlady, which was why they generally kept the leases short – turnover was high and people ended up shipping off somewhere else at a moment’s notice.
That would be fine, Stede had told her. No one ever knew what the future would bring. For all he knew, he could be one of the next people sailing off into the unknown!
Probably not, but a man could dream.
