Summary
“Aren't you gonna- you don't have questions? You're just…” Shane trails off when Ilya kisses the inside of his knee. “...fine with it?”
“I have many questions,” Ilya drawls, cheek still pressed into Shane's leg. “I am fine? Mm, probably.” He quirks his lips in a smile that doesn't reach his eyes. “I will know for sure after we talk.”
When Shane starts to sit up, Ilya lowers his legs onto the mattress and slinks up beside him. He hasn't taken off his sneakers yet. “I'm not gonna kill you, or anything, if you're worried.”
“Comforting,” Ilya rumbles.

Summary
He's getting good at this game: sneaking his questions between advances, keeping Shane in that warm state of mind where he'll actually answer them, and stifling the panic rabbiting in the base of his skull.
“So, this is thing?” He asks, tilting his head to try and catch Shane's eye. “You are most charming murderer.”
“Don't be a dick,” Shane huffs.
“Me? Never.” Ilya ducks to kiss Shane's cheek, then his nose, then the opposite cheek, pressing their faces together. He can't help kissing Shane again, on the temple this time, before he continues. “I must be lucky,” he says, “to know you are most boring man alive.”

Summary
“I am not scared,” he lies. Each word is soft but crisply enunciated so Shane can't miss them. “Do you want me scared?”
“Obviously not,” Shane snaps at him. He gestures toward Ilya's waist, toward the slim outline of what he had clocked as a folding knife the second Ilya started carrying it, and adds, “but I know you're not just ‘happy to see me.’ I want the truth, I need to hear that-” he chokes over his words, his lips moving too quickly for his brain to keep up. “Please, be honest with me, for once.”
For a long, silent moment, Ilya just stares at him, grinding his teeth behind a placid expression as if Shane can't tell.

“Are you hurt?” Ilya presses in the long silence. “Is bad?”
Another indistinct sound, maybe movement, comes over the speaker before Shane talks again. “A little. Maybe. I don't know. I…” he trails off as a background noise draws his attention. “Shit. Shit, Ilya, I have to-”
The call disconnects before Shane can explain what he has to do. Ilya lowers the phone, staring at the blinking four letters above the painfully short call duration, and swipes the redial button without a second thought.

Summary
The display lights up blue with a simple first name: Lily. Shane pulls over without thinking, smacking ineffectually at the dashboard for his hazards as he scrambles to answer the phone before the chance slips through his fingers.
Once he manages to hit the answer button, he calls out, “Um, hi?” into the staticky silence.
A beat later, Ilya replies, “Hello.” Shane can hear the impish smile on his face as he tugs out the vowels, from the sneaky quirk of his brow to the teeth chasing his full bottom lip. “I am coming to your cottage. Will be on the next flight to Montreal.”
“What?” Shane asks.
