Summary
Dr. Melissa King had never been a fan of the unknown. The anxiety of a scenario she couldn’t truly prepare for. The loss of control that came with being unable to anticipate what would come next. But as she pulled her ancient grey Jeep into a front spot at Beacon Recovery, she was doing her best to put all that aside. She cranked up the radio that was tethered to her phone and closed her eyes as the chorus of the upbeat song that played washed over her, part of a playlist she had created just for the occasion.

Summary
“Dr. Flynn?” Garcia asked them both.
Mel straightened up and stepped to the side so she could talk to Garcia without Anna hearing. “I’m dressed as Rapunzel…you know, for Halloween…and Dr. Langdon is dressed up as…well, himself I guess, but she thinks he looks like Flynn Ryder. You know, from Tangled?” Mel gestured uselessly up to the tiara on her head.
Something glinted in Dr. Garcia’s eyes. “I normally just call you two ER Barbie and ER Ken, but that has a ring to it. I like it.” She said mischievously.

Summary
"Frank?" Her soft voice sounded far away, not quite breaking through the deluge of shame and panicked self doubt that threatened to drown him. He wondered if he was imagining it. Maybe he was, because why would she be there? Why would anybody? He doubted his coworkers had even noticed he had left the room. They had plenty of other things to do anyway.

Summary
She hit ‘call’ next to Frank’s name before she could let herself overthink it and reason her way out of it.
“Mel?” Frank answered the phone within the first few rings sounding sleepy and confused, which was fair considering it was four in the morning. With a rush of fondness Mel realized that the fact that he answered at all must mean he had her contact info saved in a way that would cause it to break through his Do Not Disturb settings he switched on at night. Of course he did.
“I—” Mel found that she couldn’t get out more than that, and suddenly she was terrified that Frank would think it was a pocket dial and hang up.
He didn’t though. Of course he didn’t.Or

Summary
Walkin' through a crowd, the village is aglow
Kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats under coats
Everybody here wanted somethin' more
Searchin' for a sound we hadn't heard before
And it said“Welcome to New York” Frank whispered excitedly, squeezing her hand and distracting Mel from her place in the song. Indeed the plane was just touching down and Mel could see past him out the window to a skyline of tall buildings and city lights in the distance. The late afternoon sun was catching and turning every reflective surface into something so dazzling it was almost blinding. She focused instead on Frank’s face as it was turned towards her, dazzling in its own right with the way his blue eyes sparkled with a boyish wonder. Mel was looking forward to the long weekend in New York City for the medical conference they would be attending along with Dr. Abbott and Dr. Mohan entitled Radical Empathy: The Patient-Centered Approach.

Summary
Frank must have screamed. Maybe he cried out for help. He couldn’t be sure, as his whole world had tunneled down to the preternaturally still body of the woman he loved, splayed out in front of him on the cold trauma room floor. Her golden blonde hair was matted with drying blood, and on instinct he smoothed some of the strands from her forehead. Mel always hated when her hair was in her eyes, but they were closed now. It took everything in him to resist the urge to gather her broken body to his chest and hold her close as though he could infuse his life into hers. Instead, he lifted a shaky hand to the side of her neck to feel for a pulse. He was deeply certain that if he didn’t find one, his own heart would cease to beat as well.
