Summary
Geralt barely had time to throw up Quen.
The Sign flared, a dull gold shimmer, before the creature struck. The impact threw him back, the shield cracking like ice. Steel rang on talon. Feathers and fur filled his vision. The beast shrieked, a sound that clawed the air apart.
Jaskier’s shout was lost in the roar.
Geralt rolled, came up on one knee, slashed low. The blade met hide and bit shallowly — not enough. The griffin reared, blood spattering the snow, wings beating with hurricane force. Geralt’s hood was torn away.
Another strike — a flash of claws — and pain like fire seared across his ribs. He stumbled back, breath torn from him. Quen guttered and failed.

Summary
He slid from the saddle without a sound. His hand went to the silver sword, though his instincts already whispered it wasn’t a monster.
It was human.Geralt crouched low, pushing aside a tangle of ferns.
And there — half-hidden against the roots of an oak, curled in on himself — lay Jaskier. The bard was pale as death. His once-bright doublet was torn and dark with blood. His arms were clutched around his stomach, his face twisted in pain, breath coming in short, shuddering gasps. Blood glistened at the corner of his mouth. A deep gash ran along his thigh, and his hands trembled violently with every cough.
“Jaskier.”

Summary
“Geralt,” the boy supplied cheerfully. “Son of Visenna.”
The world tilted.
Jaskier stared, sure he’d misheard. Then the name sank in like a stone through deep water. “I— beg your pardon?”
“Geralt,” the boy repeated, perfectly at ease. “You look like you’ve swallowed a fly.”
The bard coughed, quite unable to think of anything more coherent. Geralt. The name burned in his ears. The same set to the mouth, the same stubborn brow — only softened by youth and laughter and sunlight.
It was impossible. Entirely, catastrophically impossible.
