Summary
Stane, Hammer, Aldrich. They all tried to break him, and failed. Loki tried and failed. Ultron tried and failed. His critics and his exes and every junior reporter sniffing after a scoop tried and failed.
It took the Avengers to break him. The hilarious, ridiculous, pathetic thing was, they weren’t even trying.

Summary
He has regrets. Of course he does. Things didn't play out the way he'd expected, wanted, needed them to. The people who should be here with him aren't here. Maybe he should have tried harder to make them understand, but maybe they should have tried harder to understand too. Because he’d been right, all along.
It’s not as satisfying as it should feel.

Summary
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
— JRR Tolkein, “All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter”Then they chose sides and fought each other, and the Avengers broke, blown apart by anger and betrayal and ideological differences. An empire crumbled from the inside.
Now they draw back together, wounded and wary, trying to put the shattered remnants of their family back together.
Multi-chapter companion piece to Done and Sine Qua Non, each chapter a different member of the Avengers, as they consider (or don't) the parts they played in their civil war.

Summary
The first night Tony sleeps at the compound, he gets maybe an hour and change before nightmares have him bolting awake, breath frozen in his lungs. For an eternal, panicky moment, he scrabbles at the sheets before his body remembers how to inhale, and then he sits there for long minutes on the edge of the couch, sheet tangled around his waist, head in his hands, gasping and shaking.
God, he should be used to this shit by now.

Summary
In the last three months, she’s seen Tony go through a lot of mood changes and shifts of introspection, but she doesn’t think he’s ever been close to leaving. Then again, she doesn’t think he’s actually aware of how intertwined his life’s become with theirs, because half the time, he’s exhausted from Avengers business or exhausted from engineering binges, and the other half of the time, he’s either trading one-liners and witticisms with Clint or coloring with Lila or building things with Cooper or letting Nathan crawl all over him.
She knows Clint’s aware of it. She’s definitely aware of it. Every day Tony stays with them, finds the openings they leave him to wind his way into their family, it gets harder to remember how it worked without him.

Summary
Finding privacy is impossible, because they live in a compound filled with children and Avengers and one particularly nosy AI with exquisite timing for the exact wrong moment to interrupt. If it's not the kids, it's HYDRA. If it's not HYDRA, it's FRIDAY. If it's not FRIDAY, it's every goddamn Avenger, one after the other, deciding that now is the perfect time to start repairing their relationships and rebuilding team morale.
Tony'd just like to get laid in peace, please. Maybe he should just hang a fucking tie on the doorknob.

Summary
He's been kidnapped before. The majority of his drug-and-party-blurred teenage years notwithstanding, he can't remember a time concern over abduction wasn't a constant presence in the back of his head. Said concerns were not without merit either: in the last ten years alone, he's been an unwilling guest of any number of slimeball groups and one note villains looking to make their mark on Stark Industries or the Avengers.
He never thought the next successful abduction would come from one of his own. In hindsight, he knows he should have seen it coming.
